Extra Credit Opportunity:  Fall 1999
GEOG 3133, Principles of Economic Geography
Chuck Ziehr, Northeastern State University

Extra Credit
There are two, optional extra credit opportunities in my GEOG 3133 class during the fall 1999 semester.  Both involve events during National Geography Awareness Week (November 14-20).   Both of these are optional, and are, therefore, not required of any student.
Opportunity #1 (Five bonus points)

NSU and the World:  Student Perspectives
Monday, November 15, 1999, 7:30 p.m., NET Auditorium
This program will be a panel discussion featuring international students and American students with international experience giving their insights into a variety of topics that compare and contrast the U.S. and other cultures.
In order to earn the five bonus points you must attend the program (about one hour in length) and send me an e-mail in which you state your name, class meeting time, and a one paragraph summary of something you learned at the program.  By submitting the e-mail you are giving your word of honor that you did personally attend the program.  You must submit the e-mail summary by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 1999.

Opportunity #2 (Five bonus points)

GIS Day 1999
Friday, November 19, 1999, 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 noon, or 1 p.m., NET 614
This program will be an overview and demonstration of geographic information systems (GIS) applications.  GEOG 3133 will be combined with this presentation at noon, but you may attend any of the five sessions (they will all be the same).  In order to earn the five bonus points you must attend the program (about 45 minutes in length) and send me an e-mail in which you state your name, class meeting time, and a one paragraph summary of something you learned at the program.  By submitting the e-mail you are giving your word of honor that you did personally attend the program. You must submit the e-mail summary by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 1999.

Attendance Summary Make-Up
If a student misses a graded attendance summary opportunity, he/she may write a current event analysis to make up for it (see "Class Attendance" on page one of the syllabus for details).  Please note that you still must send an e-mail notification of the reason for your excused absence in order to have this option.  The essay to make up for a graded attendance summary must be received via e-mail by 5 p.m. on December 3, 1999.  Click here to find the requirements for the attendance summary make-up.
