Dataset
The data used in this study were obtained from the Northeastern State University
Office of Enrollment Management. Data consisted of all NSU undergraduate
students enrolled in the Fall 2000 (N=6,575) and the Spring 2001 (N=6,350)
semesters who listed a county in Oklahoma as their permanent address (no
post-graduate students were included in the study). The grade point
average (GPA) data for Fall 2000 represent the overall GPA at the end of
the Fall semester (after Fall 2000 semester grades had been posted).
The GPA data for Spring 2001 represent the overall GPA at the beginning
of the Spring 2001 semester (before Spring semester grades had been
posted). The original dataset contained a record for each student;
these data were aggregated by county for analysis purposes.
[Although not included in this study, there were 297 out-of-state students
in Fall 2000 and 305 out-of-state students in Spring 2001; there were 13
international students during each semester.]
