Catalog Description of Course:
Computer technology applications in the legal environment.
Course Purpose:
This course is designed to introduce paralegal students to familiar computer applications in the legal environment. By the end of this course the student should be able to:
1. Identify key hardware components;
2. Identify key software components;
3. Understand key components and functions of W indows;
4. Understand key components
and functions
of Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access as they
relate to
the
legal environment;
5. Understand how to use the internet and e-mail in the legal environment;
6. Identify and use the popular
litigation
support software, timekeeping and billing software, and
calendaring/docket
control
software;
7. Identify specialized legal software.

Course Attendance:
Course Attendance is required. You have three (3) free unexcused absences. The fourth (4th) absence is unexcused and will result in a five (5) point deduction from your overall grade.

90 - 100: A
80 - 89: B
70 - 79: C
60 - 69: D
59 - below: F
Assignments will be given as they become relevant to the classroom material. Assignements are due by the due date given. Late assignments may be accepted if accompanied by a Motion for Extention of Time detailing the reasons for the assignments tardiness. A ten (10) point penalty will be deducted for each class period that the assignment is late.

Inclement Weather / Disaster Policy:
The following are basic premises for the inclement weather policy at Northeastern State University:
1. Classes are expected to be held if at all possible.
2. It is the student's responsibility to receive the information when weather is questionable.
3. Neither students nor faculty are expected to risk life or limb.
4. Faculty members are obligated to hold classes if the University
is not
closed, unless the faculty member is unable to get to
campus.
Policy: During times of inclement weather, decisions
concerning day classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. in order for the media
to be notified and for students to receive the announcement before they
leave
home. Decisions concerning night classes will be
made by 3:00 p.m.
