Riverhawks baseball gears up for spring

The Riverhawks baseball team just finished its fall season and is gearing up for the spring. The Riverhawks look to build on last year’s performances and come together for a season.

“We have a great group of kids and it looks promising,” said Sergio Espinal, head coach. “We have a lot of returners and some new freshman.”

Basketball pom squad tryouts Saturday

Saturday, Nov. 21, athletics is having a tryout for the basketball pom squad. All members of the current pom squad are required to try out again for the team.

“Our team has been together since July. We have really bonded together and it will hurt to lose some girls,” said Brianna Eldridge, McAlester freshman. “The tryout can go both positive and negative but looking at the brighter side of things, hopefully it will really strengthen us as a team.”

Riverhawks thump Lions in first game, 67-50

This past Sunday Missouri Southern State University came to town having won the past three visits against the Riverhawks. The Riverhawks defensively played well holding the Lions to 50 points.

“I’m proud of our defensive effort,” said Matt Cole, assistant coach. “I thought we played well defensively, we held them to 50.”
