Fine Arts renovation project under way

Construction started on the Fine Arts building and will not stop until completion, which is estimated nine months from now.

The Fine Arts building houses the Center for the Performing Arts and has not been renovated since 1994, according to the NSU Web site.

“The Fine Arts building is in need of repairs and upgrading,” said Joe Spence, director of the Physical Plant. “The project has just started and we estimate it will take about nine months.”

Smarts&Arts to benefit Autism Center of Tulsa

The Autism Center of Tulsa is holding a Smarts&Arts fundraiser Nov. 19 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and consists of a trivia night, silent auction and art show. Individual admission tickets are $35 and table sponsorships are available at $350, $500 and $750. There will be light refreshments and bidding opportunities for people who attend. All proceeds will go to and benefit ACT.

The trivia night format features teams of eight answering questions collectively. Each team will play six rounds of 10 questions. The winning table will receive prizes from sponsors. The trivia questions will range from autism facts to Oklahoma history, sports, entertainment, science and the arts.

Social Dance Society two-steps in to season

Students and community members will have the opportunity to dance the night away at NSU’s Social Dance Society Christmas Ball. Entry is $3 at the door per individual or $5 for a couple.

“Everyone is here to have fun and we all get a chance to dance,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Chouteau junior and secretary of SDS. “But remember, you are not required to bring your own partner.”

Centennial construction nearly complete

The Centennial Plaza is a recent addition to NSU. The plaza is the first part of a three-phase construction project. The second part is the new sidewalks and formal parking lot in front of the plaza. The final phase, a new campus entry sign, is now under way.

“The new campus entry sign will add a distinctive marker that you have arrived at NSU, and it will be a natural complement to the other building signs being placed around the Tahlequah campus,” said Dr. Don Betz, NSU president. “There will be other entry signs placed at the Alumni Center as you enter the campus from the bypass and near Doc Wadley Stadium. Both of these entry signs will be smaller than the one currently under construction.”
