Veteran Affairs offers education benefits

NSU Veteran Services are available to help any veteran with education benefits. The office is located on the second floor of the Case building. The Veteran Affairs coordinator is Paula Page. This is her fifth year.

“I took over the office in March 2005,” said Paula Page. “I had no idea what I was getting into, but it has been a very rewarding experience. The best part about it is helping the veterans and their families get benefits for college.”

AIBL meeting today, 3 p.m.

American Indian Business Leaders is the 7th American Indian organization at NSU.

The purpose of the organization is to get American Indian students that are business and technology majors to come together and inform them about future business opportunities. Stuart Ashworth, finance major, is the individual responsible for creating the organization.

“I strongly believe in providing awareness to students so I formed this organization for American Indian business students,” said Ashworth.

Bunch wins Miss Black NSU

As eager participants rushed in to the UC’s 2nd story ballroom last Wednesday, Nov. 11, the contestants for the 3rd annual Miss Black NSU continued their preparation for the highly anticipated pageant. The seats were set, the tickets were sold and the volunteers were ready for an event that some would say they are more than eager for.

“I prepared myself before the day of the pageant by being very organized, working on my communication skills and dance routine for talent and my walk,” said Amanda Felix, Joplin Mo. senior. “I prepared myself by staying focused and prayed for confidence, knowledge, wisdom and for God to shine through me and keep me calm.”

Films, more for International Education Week

International Education Week began this week. One country isfeatured each day.

Arisa Miyazaki, executive member of JNSU., said Monday “Mr. Baseball” was shown.

“The story is about a major leaguer goes to Japan as a foreign player and he is at a loss by different cultures.”

According to Miyazaki, Tuesday people who come to the event can watch the movie about the woman, who won the Nobel Peace Prize from Africa. Wednesday an Islamic professor is coming to talk about region and traditional culture. Thursday students can watch a Korean movie, “Cast Away in the Moon.”

NISA established to help share culture

Northeastern International Student Association began this semester.

Currently 10 to 15 international students are participating in NISA. They are enjoying sharing the different cultures and are learning other languages.

Shu Nakai, president of NISA, Japan senior, established NISA in August 2009.

またも起きた銃乱射事件

米テキサス州の フォート・フッド陸軍 基地で今月5日、銃乱 射事件が発生し、兵士 ら12人が死亡、31 人が負傷した。犯人と みられる陸軍少佐の軍 医は当初、緊急出動し た警察要員に殺害され たと報道されたが、後 に生存が確認され、病 院に収容されている。

「その事件は私 に大きな衝撃を与え た」と話す、大学4年 生のレスリー・スイニ ーさん。「従兄弟が今 そこに住んでおり、多 くの友達を失ったと聞 いている。また、昔父 が軍隊に所属していた こともあり、この事件 は私たち家族にとって つらいものがある」と 悲痛な胸の内を明かし た。

留学生にとっ て、大きなチャンスを 掴むことのできるイベ ントが目前に迫って来 た。CFN主催による ボストンキャリアフォ ーラム(BCF)が今 月20日から22日までの3 日間行われる。このB CFは言わずと知れた 日英バイリンガルの大 学生、または既卒者な どを対象としたジョブ フェアである。夢と希 望を持った学生が世界 から一同に集まり、悲 喜こもごものドラマを ボストンの地で生んで いる。

「本番のつもり ではなく、就活に対す る空気を感じようと思 って昨年のBCFに参 加した」と話す、大学4 年生の平尾泰祐さん。 「そこでやる気のある 学生に圧倒され、これ からの就活に対して大 きな刺激をもらった。 また、自分自身の就活 の甘さを感じることが でき、ボストンで得た ものは大きい」と当時 の様子を振り返る。
