C. Course Outline:

Part I Astronomy
Chapters 19, 20, 21, and 22

Part II Geology
Chapters 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 10

Part III Meteorology
Chapters 14, 15, 16, and 17



D. Field Trips:

One Friday field trip will be required for course credit. Time will be announced later. Field trip will be worth 40 points. In the event that you cannot attend the field trip, an appropriate research paper may be substituted for equivalent credit.



E. Course Grade:

Student evaluation will be based on 3 required lecture exams (one over each of the topics covered), any quizzes and homework given during the semester, plus a comprehensive final exam give during finals week. Grades will be based on the following scale:

            90-100% of highest total points = A
            80-89% of highest total points = B
            70-79% of highest total points = C
            60-69% of highest total points = D
            <60% of highest total points = F



F. Attendance:

Attendance is required and roll will be taken. In order to allow for sickness and emergencies, a maximum of 3 absences will be allowed without penalty. Absences in excess of 3 will be penalized by deducting 4% from a students final score for each additional absence. NSU sponsored events with prior notification will be the only exception to this policy.



G. Make-up Exams/Homework:

Make-up Exams: NONE! If you miss an exam with a valid excuse, I will replace it with the score you make on the final adjusted to the value of a lecture exam. This can only be done one. Everyone must take the final.

Pop Quizzes: No make-up allowed. Homework: Homework assignments are to be turned in when due. No late homework will be accepted for credit.



H. Withdrawal Policy:

Students who withdraw on or before February 20 will receive a "W" for this class. Students who withdraw after February 20 will receive either a "W" or an "F" based on their grade as of the date of withdrawal.
