Notes from the new president:

This is an exciting time to be a member of Sigma Tau Delta, especially the Mu Iota chapter!  Great things are afoot and the chapter will be building on a firm foundation left us by those who came before us.

This spring's book sale raised over $325.00 for our ongoing work and high kudos are due for all the workers who manned the tables and lent support during the three day sale.  Popular novels and reference texts seemed to be the big tickets this year.  Let's start planning for next year and see if we can't top this sales figure.

During our induction ceremonies this year the chapter honored Dr. Steve Poulter for his dedication and service to education and English.  Please, drop by his office at Seminary Hall 360, or drop him an email and congratulate him, let him know how much we all appreciate his hard work.

No organization grows without a challenge, so here's the first I would like to throw down the gauntlet to the group over:  Recruiting new members.  Each of us needs to try to recruit at least two new members for the upcoming year.  In doing this we need to be certain to ensure that all campuses are represented.  If you have classes away from the Mother Campus at Tahlequah, find the English students were you are and get them interested in Sigma Tau Delta.  They can find out more about Sigma Tau Delta by visiting their home page, and you can refer them to this page as a glimpse into the local chapter.  Membership forms will be available for download from this site at a later date, as will the requirements for membership and information about fees and payments.

We've ordered the first round of Honor Cords (the batch we just received was heavier and more durable than the last batch) and they are available from Dr. Tibetts in his office for $7.00.  A VERY reasonable price, I might add.  These will make a lovely fashion statement with your graduation robes and can be worn along with the medallion you were presented with at your induction.

We will try to update this page, as well as add new materials and other pages, as often as possible in order to keep you up-to-date on what's going on with Mu Iota.  If you have something you need to let the rest of the group know about, please, feel free to send us an email and we'll try to get it into the online site as quickly as possible.

On a personal note, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to Mu Iota for allowing me to be the president of our chapter for the next year.  It has taken me a very, very long time to become eligible for membership itself, and to be allowed to serve at all, let alone as president, is a truly great, and humbling, honor.  I will do my best to help the chapter and its members during my tenure and I can only hope to be close to as good as outgoing President Barnes has been.  My thanks to everyone.

So let's get moving.  There are infinitives to split, participles to dangle, and we know that it can all be blamed on the comma, it's always commas fault!

"Onward...through the fog!"
