4. Course Description:

This course offers an introduction to the Adobe Flash multimedia authoring environment. It incorporates hands-on experience developing web-based multimedia presentations including animation, sound, and graphics with Adobe's Flash application.

5. Instructional Materials

Adobe Flash CS3 Professional, Todd Perkins, (ISBN: 978-0-321-50983-3).

Students must also have access to the Flash development software. Several possibilities are listed under the document "How to Gain Access to the Flash authoring tool".

The document "Steps to completing this course" describes the major steps required to complete this course. Additional information will be distributed by e-mail, placed on the instructor's website, or made available on NSU Blackboard. Students might consider purchasing a USB flash drive (e.g., JumpDrive). These portable storage devices can be very helpful in storing, carrying, and transferring information between home and school. All students are expected to have their accounts on the NSU networks by the end of the first week of the semester.

6. Course Purpose:

To develop hands-on skills in designing and maintaining Flash projects and movies.
To enforce students' skill in finding and using online resources.

7. Expected Course Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate their ability to work with Flash and the primary elements of multimedia such as time, space, sound, motion, navigation, and user interface design. Students will gain a basic understanding of project definition and project management. Upon successful completion of this course the student will:

Understand the Flash interface.
Develop images using the Flash drawing and color tools.
Create animation using both shape and motion tweening.
Understand and import sound into a Flash movie.
Create interactive webpages using ActionScript.
Understand the elements involved in planning, designing, and publishing a Flash movie.
Strengthen their ability to comprehend and synthesize information; and improve their writing, oral, and critical thinking skills.

	Initial task (obtaining web space / completing syllabus agreement):		20
	Assignments (20 assignments each worth 10 points):		200
	Final project:		50

	Total points		270
