What is pre-award?

A pre-award activity is any activity in the proposal development process that takes place before the grant is submitted and any funds are awarded. At NSU, pre-award activites are handled by the Research & Sponsored Programs Office.

What is post-award?

A post-award activity is any process associated with a grant that has already been funded. These activites include the tracking of expenditures, reporting, and close out. At NSU, post-award actitivties are handled by the Reasearch Administration Office.

How does release time work?

Who can I call for help with the budet in a grant proposal?

A primary responsibility of the Research & Sponsored Programs Office is to assist in the development of proposal budgets. The Office can be reached at x2243 or research@nsuok.edu. THe most frequently asked budget development questions are also answered in the Grant Writing section of this web site under Budget Development.

Who handles my grant after it is awarded?

After fuunding, the Research Administration Office will administer the grant award and assist the Primary Investigator with expenditures, reporting, close out, and all other post-award issues.

Can I get help writing my proposal?

The Research & Sponsored Programs Office at NSU is here to support you in all aspects of proposal development. Although the Research & Sponsored Programs Office can not write the proposal for you, the Office can assist you in finding a funding source, developing a budget, proof reading the narrative, and submitting the final proposal.

What is the Community of Science (COS)?

NSU subscribes to the Community of Science (COS) expertise database and funding opportunities serach engine. COS is the leading Internet site for the global R&D community. COS brings together the world's most prominent scientists and researchers at universities, professional societies, corporations and government agencies worldwide. COS provides tools and services that enable these professionals to communicate, exchange information, and find the people and technologoes that are important to their work.

Use the Funding Opportunities search engine to identify funding sources and information. Note: You must use this service from a NSU computer or be logged into your COS account remotely.

All NSU Faculty are given a COS Expertise Profile. Use this profile to promote your research, track current research, find collaborators, and identify peer reviews.

How can I get a COS Expertise Profile?

The Research & Sponsored Programs Office administers the COS user accounts. Request a profile.

How can I find funding opportunities?

The Research & Sponsored Programs Office can assist you in identifying funding sources and exploring collaborative grant writing opportunities. The Research & Sponsored Programs web site also provides many search tools and current funding announcements. See Current News and Deadlines and Funding Opportunties.

I am a student, can I apply for a grant?

All proposals must be assigned to a Primary Investigator (PI) who is a faculty or staff member of NSU. Students can, however, assist PIs in their department with current research projects. A good way to find out what is going on is by exploring this web site and asking instructors about research opportunties. Another excellent opportunity is to participate in NSU Research Day and Oklahoma Research Day.
