Ozturk, Ahmet, Ed.D., has been teaching at NSU since August of 1991 and received tenure and
promotion to associate professor in August of 1996. He is a member of the graduate council and
teaches 4000-5000 level courses in exercise science, sports physiology, and cardiopulmonary
rehabilitation. He is an ACSM certified exercise specialist, advanced personal trainer, and holds a
certificate of enhanced qualification for scientific and applied aspects of resistance exercise
training from ACSM, and founder and sponsor of the NSU Fitness/Wellness Society (student
organization). He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, Central States
ACSM, American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Oklahoma
Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Oklahoma Association of
Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Association of American University Professors, and
Oklahoma Soccer Association.
Prior to his employment at NSU, Dr. Ozturk held fitness/wellness coordinator positions at two
Tulsa hospitals and acquired extensive clinical experience in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation,
marketing, health promotion,and fitness assessments. He is an active researcher, speaker, and serves
on professional organization committees and boards. He has been organizing health promotional
events and activities for students and Tahlequah area residents. He is a passionate soccer player,
coach and a soccer dad. Currently he is coaching two youth soccer teams and serving as a head
coach for the Indian Nation Soccer Club in Tahlequah. He is married and has two young boys,
ages 6 and 8. His other hobbies, besides playing and coaching soccer, are traveling, gardening,
hiking, and skiing.
