Approval of the Minutes: approved
Officer Reports:
President- Dues $7.50 for
non-lifetime members. Lifetime members- you are not required to pay,
but would be nice if you are still involved in the organization.
Vice President- working on
reserving Gazebo for upcoming dance.
Secretary-unable to get emails out
to Luau list
Treasurer- (pd $277.86 for
lights). New balance is $414.97. Ed called an reminded us to make a
budget for Senate of at least $1000, as they will probably give us half.
Senator- Lacey is still
interested.
Committee Reports- officers must chair at
least one committee
Welcome Back- success. List of interested parties
to be emailed about upcoming events.
Swing Dance- Josh will chair instead of Megan.
Offer lesson beforehand. Add Laura to committee members. Meeting next
Thursday following SDS meeting.
Hangar- big dance in Tulsa, WWII/40’s themed. $15

Dances
Welcome Dance
The first dance of the year will be held on September 14th, check back
for further details.
Masquerade Ball
The Masquerade Ball is the Halloween dance for the year. It will be held
on Friday, the 27th of October from 6:30-9:30 in the North Gym.
Traditionally, attendees wear a costume, but is not required to attend.
There is no fee, and a prize will be given for best male and female
costumes.
Hanger Dance
The Hanger Dance will be held on Saturday, the 11th of November. It is
WWII/40's themed, held in Tulsa. Entry fee is $15 per person.
Winter Ball
The Winter Ball is a semi-formal dance, and will be held on Thursday,
the 7th of December from 8:00-10:00pm in the UC Ballroom. There will be
a lesson from 7:30- 8:00. The cost is $3 per person, and $5 per couple.

SDS Meetings
SDS Meetings are held on Thursdays, and begin at 5:30pm
in Flo's.
They run roughly thirty minutes in length.

SDS
Constitution
Article I Name
This organization shall be known as the NSU Social Dance Society (SDS).
Article II Purpose
The purpose of this club shall be to create an atmosphere of good clean
fun through the use of social dance, to promote and extend the benefits
of social dance throughout the college and in the surrounding community,
and to interact and compete with other dance clubs.
Article III Values
Section 1 Defined
The values of SDS are honesty, moral integrity, respect for others, as
well as continually developing as a dancer and creating a wholesome
family atmosphere.
Section 2 Partnership
SDS cannot, for any reason, partner with any organization that
does not uphold the values of SDS.
Article IV Membership
Section 1 Requirements
Membership in SDS shall be open to all NSU students, members of the
community, and NSU alumni upon paying their dues. Members are expected
to uphold the values of SDS when officially representing SDS at
activities or during promotions.
Section 2 Discrimination
SDS will not discriminate against any of its members according but not
limited to race, gender, or age.
Section 3 Hazing
SDS prohibits any member, acting alone or with others, to conspire or
engage in hazing or to participate in hazing.
Section 4 Renewal and Termination
Membership must be renewed on a semesterly basis and may be terminated
for noncompliance with expectations of an SDS member as outlined in the
by-laws.
Section 5 Lifetime Membership
1. Members who gained membership under the “lifetime”
membership terms, will retain their lifetime membership until they
choose to terminate it.
2. Lifetime membership may also be awarded by the executive committee
to any member who displays a high level of dedication to SDS, and
consistent behavior exemplary of SDS values.
3. A lifetime member is exempt from renewing their dues on a
semesterly basis.
Article V Officers
Section 1 Listing
Officers will be as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer, Historian, and Events Coordinator.
Section 2 Requirements
Requirements to be an officer are as follows:
· Enrolled student at NSU
· Member of SDS
· Assume duties specified in
By-Laws
Article VI Appointed Positions
The following positions will be appointed by the president and approved
by the executive committee: senator and committee chairs
Article VII Meetings
Regular meetings will be held every week during the school semester on
either a Wednesday or a Thursday. A 2/3 vote of all present can cancel
or change the time of the next meeting.
Article VIII Removal from Office
Section 1 Resignation
Officers who choose to resign must formally do so by submitting a
letter of resignation and returning club assets and documentation in
their possession to the secretary.
Section 2 Termination
An officer can be removed from the position for the following reasons
· 3 unexcused absences from the regular meetings
· Failure to fulfill the obligations required by their office
· Behavior inconsistent with the club values while acting in the
official capacity of their office
· Excessive tardiness without arrangements (4 tardies is
considered excessive)
Article XI Termination Procedures
1. The vote to terminate must take place at a regular meeting
2. An attempt must be made to notify the offender, as well as
all club members, of the pending termination at least 3 days in advance
of the next regular meeting
3. 2/3 vote is required by all members present at the meeting
Article XII Sponsor
Section 1 Requirements
A sponsor must meet the following requirements to be elected as
sponsor:
Be a member of the community who is not enrolled as a student
Have a permanent residence in Tahlequah in which he/she can store SDS
property as students graduate and move away.
Commit to a 3 year term
Have experience and a continuing interest in social dance
Section 2 Duties
The following are the duties of the sponsor:
Be present at 50% of SDS activities (includes: regular meetings, dances,
and campus sponsored events)
Offer advice
Help bring dance instruction to SDS
Section 3 Removal
1. Resignation
At the end of the three years, the sponsor may resign if it
is his/her wish to do so; Or, he/she
may commit to another three year term.
2. Termination
The sponsor may be relieved of sponsorship only for
one of the following reasons:
- 2 consecutive semesters of inactivity
- Behavior inconsistent with the club values
Inactivity is defined as not being present at 50% of SDS
activities without good reason.
Article XIII Election Procedures
Section 1 Procedures
1. An attempt must be made to notify all members of the
upcoming election at least 2 weeks in advance.
2. Votes must be collected no later than the election date. Absentee
votes must be submitted before the election date.
3. Voting will be by secret ballot only. Immediately after the
election, the votes must
be counted in a separate room by two neutral parties who are not running
for
office.
4. The newly elected candidates will take office at the next regular
meeting after the election.
Section 2 Officers
1. Officer elections will take place at the end of every spring
semester.
2. An officer may be elected by a majority vote, or, if there is more
than one candidate, the one to receive the most votes will be elected.
Section 3 Sponsor
1. Sponsor elections will take place every three years, providing that
the current sponsor wishes to resign. If the current sponsor does not
wish to resign, no election procedures are necessary.
2. If a Sponsor is relieved of his/her sponsorship, there may be a
special election to obtain a new sponsor.
3. A sponsor must be elected by a ¾ vote in his/her favor.
Article XIV Amendments
Section 1 Constitution
1. Constitutional amendments may be made by a 4/5 vote of all members.
2. The vote must take place at a regular meeting.
Section 2 By-laws
1. The By-laws may be amended by a ¾ vote of all members present.
2. The vote must take place at a regular meeting.

SDS By-Laws
Article I Membership
1. Members are
expected to uphold the values of SDS when officially representing SDS at
activities or during promotions.
2. Members are
expected to be at 50% of all SDS activities (includes: regular meetings,
dances, and campus sponsored events)
3. Members are
expected to serve on at least two committees per semester.
4. Members must pay
dues every semester in the amount of $7. (Lifetime members are exempt
from this requirement)
Article II Officer’s Duties
Section 1
President
It will be the duties
of the president to:
1. Preside over all
regular meetings.
2. Be responsible for all SDS activities.
3. Act as liaison to other social dance clubs.
4. Prepare the agenda for all regular meetings.
Section 2 Vice
President
It will be the duties
of the Vice President to:
1. Act as liaison between SDS and Faculty Sponsor.
2. Assume duties of the president in his/her absence.
Section 3
Secretary
It will be the duties
of the Secretary to:
1. Record minutes of
every regular meeting.
2. Prepare copies of the previous week’s minutes and bring them to
every regular meeting.
3. Send e-mails to all members reminding them of meeting dates.
4. Otherwise keep members informed of club activities via e-mail
5. Inform everyone on the e-mail list of upcoming SDS events.
6. Update the e-mail list after each dance.
7. Update the Xanga site.
Section 4
Treasurer
It will be the duties
of the Treasurer to:
1. Balance the
checkbook monthly.
2. Receive bank statements.
3. Prepare a financial report for every regular meeting.
4. Approve or disapprove budget prepared by Committee Chairs.
Section 5 Historian
It will be the duties
of the Historian to:
1. Take pictures at
SDS events.
2. Develop pictures regularly.
3. Keep updated scrapbook.
4. Keep an accurate record of the history of SDS.
5. Keep a copy of the minutes of every meeting.
6. Keep a record of all lifetime members.
Section 6 Events
Coordinator
It will be the duties
of the Events Coordinator to:
1. Reserve the
building for dances.
2. Oversee Committee Chairs.
3. Organize Public Relations efforts which includes the making and
distribution of flyers, posters, campus e-mails, marquee messages, etc.
Section 7 Senator
It will be the duties
of the Senator to:
1. Attend Senate
meetings weekly and prepare a report for every regular meeting.
2. Act as liaison between SDS and Northeastern Student Government
Association.
Section 8 Committee
Chairs
It will be the duties
of the Committee Chairs to:
1. Organize committee
meetings to plan SDS events.
2. Delegate duties to committee members.
3. Report on progress at every regular meeting or as needed.
Article III Executive committee
1. The executive
committee will consist of the President, the Vice President, the
Secretary, and the Treasurer.
2. The executive
committee will have the authority to make last minute decisions at
emergency meetings, with out conducting a vote of the members.
3. The executive
committee will have the authority to appoint replacements for officers
who resign or are terminated from their position before the completion
of their term.
