Information

This website provides basic information about some of the many opportunities for music students on our campus.

Northeastern State University (NSU) offers the musical opportunities of a large university with the low cost and convenience of a regional institution.  NSU music graduates pursue careers as teachers, performers, composers, and many other professions.

Private lessons are offered for both instrumental and vocal students.  Specialized private study in jazz improvisation is also offered.

There are numerous ensemble opportunities at NSU as well.  The band program consists of the Riverhawak Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Basketball Band, Winter Guard, and Wind Ensemble.

NSU boasts a well-respected jazz program that offers the only bachelor's degree in jazz studies in the state of Oklahoma.  Last year’s CD release of the top jazz ensemble, Appointment in Milano, was selected as one of the ten best CD's in the nation by Jazz Education Journal.  Our director of jazz studies, Dr. Arthur White, was recently selected as Oklahoma’s Jazz Educator of the Year.

The choral program is led by Dr. Don Studebaker and consists of the University Singers and University Chorus.
