Thursday

Weekly Meeting: Every Thursday during an academic year NoTSO will hold a Weekly Meeting, with the exception of the second Thurday of each month which is a Regular Meeting.

Weekly Meetings are more informal than Regular Meetings. Speakers and Presentations will be scheduled during Weekly Meetings. During the month of September, NoTSO may schedule presentations by campus resources such as Trio, Placement Services or the financial aid office.

When speakers and presentations aren't scheduled, members will meet to get to know each other and to discuss ideas to bring up at Regular Meetings.

Study Groups

Due to interest shown at last week's meeting, we may dedicate part of this and future Weekly Meetings to Study Groups; until we decide exactly how we are going to schedule Study Groups, you might want to bring a book or two to Weekly Meetings. Our options will be discussed at today's meeting.

Committee Meeting

The tentatively scheduled Presentation Meeting for today has been postponed one or two weeks. Most likely the Presentation will occur on Thursday, September 30, 2004. Visit our web site to find the most recent updates.

Today's meeting will focus primarily on this semester's upcoming events. The Events Committee and the PR Committee both need new volunteers! Experience is helpful, but not required. There are many, many things to be done to accomplish our many goals, and your help is needed! If you've been waiting for the right time to become involved, this meeting is a good time to introduce yourself to NoTSO!

The meeting is in room 223 of the UC--above the Bookstore. We hope to see you there!

Fishing with SCEC

SCEC has contacted NoTSO asking us to provide volunteers for a fishing day at Lake Tenkiller. This is an annual event at which disabled children and others are provided free access to pontoon boats, fishing gear, etc, so they can enjoy a day fishing on the lake. Anyone is welcome to attend. Bring yourselves, friends, spouses or children! Everything else is provided. Arrive at 8:30 AM at Chicken Creek. To get there, leave Tahlequah heading south on 69. At the "T", turn left onto 82. Drive about 15 minutes. Turn right on Chicken Creek Road. When you get to the store, turn left just past the store. Drive to the water, and you'll see everyone. I found general directions on Mapquest. If you go out on a boat, expect to return around noon. Free food and beverages will be provided. If you can't stay until noon, arrive at 8:30 AM and ask if you can volunteer on shore.

Parents, Family and Friends Day

NSU sponsors Parents, Family and Friends Day to welcome the parents, family and friends of NSU students. This gives students the opportunity to share their college experience with those closest to them. NoTSo members have volunteered to work as needed to support this NSU event.

Non-Trad Day at Doc Wadley Stadium.

Redmen Football vs. Texas A&M Commerce, 7:00 PM.

This year, NoTSO is supporting Parents, Family and Friends Day by designating Non-Traditional Student day at Doc Wadley Stadium. This event complements Parents, Family and Friends Day and is meant to encourage non-traditional students to attend today's football game at Doc Wadley Stadium. Bring your parents, families and friends!

We will be having a tail-gate party before the game, starting around 5:30 PM. Everyone is welcome! Look for our members in grey T-shirts with "NoTSO" on the front left and our NoTSO emblem on back.

Free beverages will be provided by NSU as long as they're in stock. See you at the game!

International Day of Peace

Come together!

NoTSO, in cooperation with other groups in the community, will be holding a candlelight reading of Governor Brad Henry's Proclamation mentioned below. This will take place at the gondola West of the Financial Aid Building, which is between the Main Library and Seminary Hall on the Tahlequah campus. The time, tentatively set for 7:00 PM, will be given in an informational e-mail to be sent out Monday or Tuesday. All are welcome!

The United Nations has declared September 21 of each year as an International Day of Peace. Organizations around the world participate in various ways. Here in Tahlequah, our goal is to recognize the fact that people from around the world share a common bond, and our differences are a strength. The student body at NSU is a diverse mix of cultures from across the country and around the world. Tahlequah has a rich history with input from multiple cultures. Today is a day to celebrate that diversity.

One of our members, Alicia Gourd, wrote to Governor Brad Henry asking him to recognize International Day of Peace. We recently received an official Proclomation from Governor Henry recognizing this day state wide. Special thanks to Alicia for taking the intitiative to do this for us, and thank you to Governor Henry for issuing this Proclamation.

Sodexo will be offering a different ethnic meal choice each day this week in recognition of the UN's International Day of Peace.
