CATALOG DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
A capstone course for all industry majors. Included in the course is the development of student portfolios, industrial survey of employment opportunities, required writing experiences in the major and assessment.

COURSE PURPOSE:
To provide students with a realistic plan for getting and keeping a job after graduation. Topicx covered will include: resumes, cover letters, on the job correspondence, appropriate dress for interviewing and work and the job search.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The student will be expected to achieve the following objectives:
1. Identify career opportunities in both industry and business.
2. Describe current employment trends in industry and business.
3. Construct an individual portfolio.
4. Develop a plan for career decisions in the future.
5. Identify current interview and selection procedures.
6. Demonstrate "Real world" interviewing knowledge through videotaped interviews.
8. Demonstrate writing ability by producing memos, business letters, letters of inquiry, cover letters, etc.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES:
Students who are required to participate in official university activities necessitating absences from class must meet with their instructors prior to the events and arrange to make up all work missed during their absence. Work turned in after due dates will receive a 10% reduction.
ASSIGNMENT DUE DATES:
Assignments are due at 2:00 (beginning of class) on the assigned due date. Papers turned in after the due date will receive a 10% reduction.

Grades will be based on evaluation of written assignments, research, and meaningful class discussion/participation. Points will be awarded according to the following.

The course grade will reflect scores on written assignments, research, interviews, and the quality of class participation.
1. Class participation means interaction with fellow students and the professor-not simple presence. Class comments will reflect reading and honest consideration of the viewpoints held by other students and the instructor.
2. The assessment exam will be required for course completion.
4. Students are advised that the last date during the semester when they may drop a course with an automatic "W" will be Friday, December 7th.
5. Students wishing to visit with the professor about their standing in the class may visit him in his office. Office hours enumerated above are also posted adjacent to the door.

INCLEMENT WEATHER / DISASTER POLICY:
The following are basic premises for the inclement weather policy at Northeastern State University:
1. Classes are expected to be held if at all possible.
2. It is the student's responsibility to receive the information when weather is questionable.
3. Neither students nor faculty are expected to risk life or limb.
4. Faculty members are obligated to hold classes if the University is not closed, unless the faculty member is unable to get to campus.
Policy: During times of inclement weather, decisions concerning day classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. in order for the media to be notified and for the students to receive the announcement before they leave home. Decisions concerning night classes will be made by 3:00 p.m.
