CATALOG DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
An introduction to the concepts and techniques used in Electronic Media Presentations. The course covers the latest in hardware and software. Emphasis is placed on design techniques to produce multimedia presentations on the computer.
COURSE PURPOSE:
This course is an elective course for graphic arts majors and minors as well as a general elective for other students. The course is designed to provide a general understanding of the use of computers in producing electronic presentations.
EXPECTED COURSE OUTCOMES:
In order to gain an understanding and knowledge of the area of electronic media, the student will be expected to achieve the following objectives:
1. Demonstrate an ability to visually communicate ideas through the use of computer software.
2. Demonstrate an ability to generate text material using word processing software.
3. Demonstrate an ability to create graphics using a variety of computer software for original art and clip art.
4. Discuss the importance of electronic media presentations.
5. Organize effective presentations by generating a final media presentation on computer hardware using available presentation software.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: No required textbook. Handouts will be provided.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:
The expected outcomes for the course will be reached through a systematic approach to classroom instruction and laboratory practice. The time allotted below will be approximate amount of class periods used to cover various content topics.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE COURSE:

Student's
Responsibilities: The student is responsible for attending class meetings, reading all assigned text and preparing all assignments and homework in a timely and professional manner; for studying material outside of class as needed; for cleaning the laboratory areas upon completion of a lab assignment; and for courteous and cooperative behavior to the instructor and to other students. No eating or drinking is allowed in computer labs. No smoking, chewing, dipping or spitting is allowed in the building.
Instructor's Rights: The instructor has the right to courteous and cooperative behavior from all members of the class; timely student preparation of all assignments; and honest student behavior during all evaluation activities. All work is to be done by the individual submitting work to be evaluated.

LABORATORY AND CLASS CONDUCT:
The computer lab in PA-B8 is closed during other class times to members of this class. You will find the programs available in the NET building. Some special equipment will be available at times in PA -B6 when not in use by other classes. You will be given notice as to when the lab will be open and what hours will be available for outside class time work.
Laboratory and class conduct is under the direction of the instructor. There is to be no smoking or smokeless tobacco in the building. THIS BUILDING AND ALL CAMPUS BUILDINGS ARE NOW A TOBACCO FREE FACILITIES. IF YOU MUST SMOKE YOU WILL HAVE TO LEAVE THE BUILDING. Food and drinks are to be kept out of the computer area. Students will be expected to clean up after working in the lab.
Lab activity sheets will be provided giving you the specific information on each assignment.
STUDENT EVALUATION:
Grades will be based on the following percentages:
Laboratory and other assignments 60%
Exams 40%
Letter grades will be assigned on the following percentages of the total above:
90% = A
80% = B
70% = C
60% = D
59.9% and below = F
MATERIAL FEE:
The student will accessed one IA Resale (blue card) at the cost of $10.00 to cover the cost for special equipment, software and supplies.
DROP POLICY:
The last day to drop with an automatic "W" will be Friday, December 6. If you decide to drop after this date (November 9, 2001) you will receive the grade you have earned up to the drop date. A "W" will be assigned if your grade is a "D" or higher and an "F" will be assigned if you stop attending and have not turned in assignments or have not taken scheduled exams prior to the drop date.

INCLEMENT WEATHER OR DISASTER POLICY
The following are basic premises for the inclement weather policy at Northeastern:
1. Classes are expected to be held if at all possible.
2. It is the student's responsibility to receive the information when weather is questionable.
3. Neither students nor faculty are expected to risk life or limb.
4. Faculty members are obligated to hold classes if the university is not closed, unless the faculty member is unable to get to the campus.
Policy: During times of inclement weather, decisions concerning day classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. in order for the media to be notified and for the students to receive the announcement before they leave home. Decisions concerning night classes will be made by 3:00 p.m.
A list of local area radio and TV stations will be provided later when it is released by the University.
The automated attendant message on 918.456.5511 will be modified to include information concerning campus operations during increment weather.
