·         We have two new staff members.   Susan Plummer – (Teacher Assistant) She previously worked at Grissom.  (They didn’t want to lose her!)  Our other addition is our new clerk:  Yvonne Carreno.  She is scheduled to start Monday.    She will be here part time (4 hours per day).  She is bilingual (fluent Spanish) for any translation needs (written or spoken).   Please introduce yourself to them and continue to make them feel welcome and a part of the Grimes family.   

·         Bobbi Richins is now in the position of Principal’s Secretary!!! J 

·         Each fall, Oklahoma A+ Schools holds three Regional Meetings.  Grimes will be hosting the one held in Tulsa.  It is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4th, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.   They will tour the school, enjoy an informance, and participate in staff development in the cafeteria by the facilitating A+ Fellows.  There should be approximately 30 participants from our region

Oklahoma A+ Schools-

The Grimes Elementary was accepted into the Oklahoma A+ Schools network last spring.  The Grimes staff committed a week of their summer in the A+ Summer Institute in Oklahoma City.  A+ is based on three defining components:  Professional Development, Networking, and Research.  The eight essential focus areas are Curriculum, Multiple Intelligences, Experiential Learning, Enriched Assessment, Arts Integration, Collaboration, Infrastructure, and Climate.  The staff spent the week mapping the curriculum and finding common threads.  We worked together to develop our year-long school wide theme: change.  Our goals are cross-curricular integration, differentiated instruction, and to infuse the arts into our classrooms providing a more enriched learning environment for our students.  It is our mission to meet the needs of all our students and enable them to make better connections.  We are excited about our commitment to collaboration and the implementation of arts integration.  We feel that this is a step towards working smarter, not harder. 

 

Attendance Incentive-

Each year Grimes strives to promote perfect attendance.  Each student with perfect attendance for the first 45 days of school will receive a perfect attendance tee-shirt and their name in a drawing for a free bicycle. To promote classroom perfect attendance, each class has an attendance flag which is posted outside their classroom door if that class achieves perfect attendance for the day.  Incentives continue throughout the year to promote attendance.

 

Grimes Back to School Picnic and Carnival “Celebrating 40 years of Excellence”-

Grimes will be having a back to school picnic and carnival September 8th, 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.  Join us for food and fun.  What a great opportunity for families, community supporters, and staff to strengthen their relationships.  There will be games, face painting, food from Johnny Carinos, popcorn, cotton candy, balloons, and much more!  PTA memberships and Grimes 40th year anniversary tee-shirts orders will also be available.
