Study Suggestions for Final Exam

 

These are the kinds of topics that may be included on the final exam.  Some questions will involve plays studied both before and after the midterm exam; other questions will involve only plays studied since the midterm exam. 

 

  1. The American family
    1. Difficult relationships within the family, such as

                                                               i.      Brother-brother (fraternal rivalry)

                                                             ii.      Father-son

    1. Spoilers of family relationships, such as

                                                               i.      Lying, deception

                                                             ii.      Alcoholism and abuse of other drugs

                                                            iii.      Incest

 

  1. The American Dream
    1. Aspirations of the American Dream (the specific goals characters aspire to)
    2. Degree of success in achieving the American Dream
    3. The playwrights’ critique of the American Dream (what they are criticizing about American society)
    4. Groups that are disadvantaged in their pursuit of the American Dream, such as

                                                               i.      African Americans

                                                             ii.      Women (What specific disadvantages does each group face?)
