The Army ROTC Ranger Team pulled off a huge upset recently by winning two events and placing high in the overall standings at the annual 10th Brigade Ranger Challenge Competition at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
The Ranger Challenge Competition is a grueling 24-hour test of military skills, mental strength and physical stamina.
The cadets compete in seven events: Patrolling, Land Navigation, Physical Fitness Test, Weapons Assembly/Disassembly/Functions Check, One-Rope Bridge, Grenade Assault Course and a 10-Kilometer Run.
The 10th ROTC Brigade includes all universities with Army ROTC programs from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois.
The teams must start with nine members and finish with no fewer than eight.
Twenty-eight teams arrived to compete and 27 teams finished.
Next up for the NSU Ranger Team will be the Spring Ranger-Buddy Competition held in April at Lawrence, Kansas.
Organizers said that last year, this competition was attended by 130 two-man teams from 42 universities throughout the Midwest.
