Everyone wants to have a fun and exciting summer vacation.
This summer the College of Liberal Arts is planning a trip to the Grecian Isles to help students, faculty, staff, family members and community members have a wonderful summer vacation. Students that take part in the summer trip can also gain college credit.
This program which allows everyone to visit Europe was started years ago by the Living Literature Center. However, until recently trips were more for Tahlequah community members than NSU students.
Dr. Andrew Vassar, a sponsor of the trip and Assistant Professor of Humanities said, “Only in the past few years have we begun to tailor the trip more towards students.”
The College of Liberal Arts, the Living Literature Center, the English department and the Department of Music and Humanities are sponsoring this year’s trip. Vassar, and Dr. Christopher Malone, Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Living Literature Center, will accompany the students during the trip.
This trip can definitely be called a trip of a lifetime.
This year’s trip itinerary includes visits to both Athens and the Grecian Isles.
“The trip begins by departing from Dallas (transportation to Dallas will be included).
The first days are spent in Athens visiting the Parthenon and Archaeological Museum. Then out to Delphi, the most sacred place on earth to the ancient Greeks. Next it’s on to a cruise of some of the best Greek Islands: Santorini, the beautiful island you see in all the Greece pictures, Crete, on of the largest of the Greek islands, Patmos, Rhodes and Mykonos. The trip even includes getting to spend a few hours at Ephesus, an ancient city in western Turkey. And the visit to Greece would not be complete without a visit to Mycenae, the home of the ancient Greeks who attacked Troy and Olympia and the home of the first Olympics,” said Vassar.
The trip to the Grecian Isles will cost about $2,400 This entire amount is due by March 2, 2005.
“However, the tour company would rather have students pay the $95 registration fee in as soon as possible. After the registration is paid a $400 payment is expected 30 days later. Once both the registration and the $400 payment is received you can pay the remainder whenever possible,” said Vassar.
If a person cannot pay the entire amount by March 2, the tour company will take credit cards and also allows students to use a payment plan through MBNA America.
