Jazz Band Donation

This spring semester we were able to donate money to our very own NSU Jazz Band. The jazz band has been asked to make a CD with Scott Wendholt, a trumpet player from New York. The band was asking for funding to help with the many costs of making a CD and we donated $100. If you donated $50 you could get your name on the jacket cover and for $100 you could get your name on the jacket and a free CD. This is a great chance for the jazz band to really get their name out and be heard. So we wish them lots of luck on this upcoming project!

Alpha Rho Fundraiser

One of our fundraisers this spring was the WGI Contest at Tahlequah High School. We had 100 roses from Reasor’s, as well as, materials for customers to make personalized buttons. The day started off kind of slow, but once we figured out how to make the buttons we were on a roll. Most of the students love to receive roses for their well done success and to wear buttons to support their school and their friends. By the end of the day we had sold all 100 roses and more buttons than I can count. It was a long day, but all went smoothly and it turned out to be a great fundraiser. We have done this fundraiser for two years now and will continue to do this as long as the contest is in our local area.

District Convention

Every spring semester we go to South West District Convention, this year it is being held at OU in Norman, OK. Every year Convention is held at a different school in the district. We are extremely excited about going. Preparation for this takes a few weeks, and planning to get things going appropriately takes time too. We always have a theme and this year it is Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers; we have shirts to wear that has the football guy on them and we will be carrying telephones that help with the theme. This year the carriers of the arc are President: Cat Conaway, Vice President: Sam Snow, Alumni Secretary: Randi Phelps, and Parliamentarian: Bryan Rowley. This will be a great time to be with other brothers around the district.

Spaghetti Dinner

On February 20, 2005, Alpha Rho had our second spaghetti dinner with the Lambda chapter from the University of Arkansas at the NSU Jazz Lab. The food was provided by Alpha Rho and Lambda provided the drinks. Alumnus of Alpha Rho, Aaron and Erica Smith cooked the spaghetti noodles, sauce, and bread sticks. For dessert, we enjoyed a cake for Aaron Smith and Kim Blevins’ birthdays. The food and conversation were great. After dinner we watched Steve Harvey’s Big Time on the WB, in which a member of the Lambda chapter was competing. His group didn’t win but he represented KKY very well. Thanks Lambda for the wonderful evening.

ScrapBooking

On March 25, 2005 our chapter gathered together to discuss our plans for districts. Once we were done with that most of the members got out about 1,000 pictures and scrapbook paper and started making scrapbook pages. The 2004-2005 year was pretty eventful. We had a pretty big rush class, so there were a lot of interesting pictures from that, and of course our annual car wash fundraiser turned out some awesome pictures. We also had our first alumni banquet this year, where members from years past came out to reminisce about the “good ole days”. We got some good pictures of the “old guys” and Lowell showed up to our banquet. We had so much fun looking through the past and wondering what we were thinking in this picture, and what were making that face for in the picture. We all had a blast, and we got a lot of great scrapbook pages out of it.

Arkansas Area Workshop

All of us that went to Arkansas Area Workshop met at the band room, loaded up in our cars and went on our way. After a 3 hour trip we made it to Conway, Arkansas. That night we went to the University of Arkansas campus for a KKY/TBS joint ceremony. After the ceremony, we went back to an Epsilon Beta brother’s apartment where we all stayed for the night, after hanging out with the District President, Dusty Brown, for awhile. The next day we went back to the campus for registration and spent the day with everyone at Workshop. There were several joint sessions with our brothers and TBS sisters as well as having separate sessions. We had to leave early due to the long drive home and basketball games going on as well. All in all we had a great time at Arkansas Area Workshop. Thank you Epsilon Beta for having us stay and hosting Workshop.

Fort Smith Colony Installation

On February 21st our chapter traveled to the University of Arkansas at Ft. Smith to see the installation of a new chapter. This road trip started out like most of our trips. So according to tradition, we were running behind schedule. The trip over to Arkansas was thrilling to say the least and we all learned some great defensive driving techniques. Once we arrived, we hurried inside so we could stand around and wait. After the new brothers were initiated into the fraternity, Colonel Bonner installed the Lambda Kappa chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. It’s very exciting to see the creation of a new chapter. We had a great time with all the brothers and went to eat and hang out at Chili’s after.

Oklahoma Area Workshop

Nine of us loaded up two cars and headed down to Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee, OK. It took about three hours to get there. We played welcome games; one of them was trying to find people in our same group that we were assigned to, and then we tried to flip over a tarp without anyone stepping off the tarp. Afterwards we listened to two awesome guest speakers. Everyone enjoyed lunch and passing time with the other chapters that showed up. The Lambda guys were right there by our side making us laugh as usual. After lunch we went to our separate sessions and learned that SWD lost half their votes at National Convention two years ago. That is why some of our brothers here at Alpha Rho are going this year!!!!
