Annual Campout

It’s fall break again and time for another Alpha Rho National Headquarters Workday. This also marks the 3rd annual Alpha Rho campout. For those of you who are not familiar with our chapter, few of our members are able to get out of bed and drive at five in the morning so every year we campout in Stillwater, OK the night before our workday. Thanks to a couple of our membership candidates, and their vans, transportation was a breeze this year. The camping spot we chose this year was the beautiful Lake McMurty. Hard to find as it may be, this small local lake proved to be ideal for our needs. We had our small section of the lake to ourselves equipped with our own beach (kind of). Like last year, a few of our more adventurous members took a few of our membership candidates on an early morning polar bear swim. The water turned out to be just a refreshing and just as cold as last year.
In the usual mad panic we leave camp in every year to get to the train station on time, breakfast was cut short. There were no “biscuits on a stick” this year and no time for me and our president, Aaron Smith, to cook our special bacon. Nothing ever goes according to plan and we proved that this year, but in that Alpha Rho spirit Aaron and I fired up that grill at the National office and cooked our bacon then fried the biscuits in the bacon grease. To rap things up, we all had a great time again this year and personally, I am already planning on next years trip.

Movie Night & History Party

On October 13, 2003, the Alpha Rho chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi went to Aaron Smith's house to have a movie night. It also gave the Membership Candidates a chance to get some members' histories. Everybody goofed around listening to music and then trying to watch a movie, but with 25 to 30 people in the house, it's kind of hard to get everyone to quit. So we ate some junk food; Sam Snow brought chips some of his homemade salsa (Trust me, it was GOOOD!). Randi Phelps brought cookies and Salsa flavored Doritos; she only shared these with Erica Smith and Cat Conaway, but nobody else really seemed to care. Movie night also gave the members a chance to get to know the MC's better. As for myself, I found out that we do have a really good rush class this semester. They're funny, fun to be around, and they all work very hard. All in all, it was a fun night, and I'm sure we'll do it again.

Informal Rush

On Monday, August 25th, the Alpha Rho chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi hosted our annual Informal Rush at the NSU Jazz Lab. We showed a 15 minute video about KKY's goals and duties. Everyone seemed pretty interested and had a lot of questions to ask. After the video we took some time to let everyone introduce themselves and let visitors ask questions about the members. We served pizza and pop and everyone had a great time. We had about 30 people in attendance, and about 30 were interested in joining. A week later we had 17 initiates to start the semester with. Overall, it was a very successful event.

Car Washes

During the fall semester one of our fund raising activities was a car wash held at the beginning of August. We have our car washes at NAPA auto parts where they supply all of the sponges, hoses, and soap. We met early in the morning on Saturday and then got to work. Some of us (mostly the girls) went out to the road and held up signs to get the motorists attention. While everybody else got busy washing cars. Later, that afternoon we witnessed a hit and run accident between two cars and we had to take a little break to give a police report to the local Tahlequah police (they eventually caught the guy). We finished up that day at about 4:30 sunburnt and dripping wet, but we left with almost $300. So I think the car wash was pretty successful and it helps to build teamwork and brotherhood.

Fall 2003 Memebrship Candidates

This fall we had 11 candidates become new members. We had many alumni come down for 3rd. I think this showed the new members that your brothers stay your friends forever. During the semester we did the traditional games and things that are done around here. I felt that everyone enjoyed themselves.
