Computer Science II - CS 2163 MWF 11:00 a.m
PREREQUISITES:
CS 2013 - Computer Science I or an
equivalent course with a grade of C or better.
CATALOG DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
A continuation of CS 2013 emphasizing advanced procedural and structural programming concepts including searching and sorting, recursion, pointers/references, dynamic allocation, file I/O, user defined types and advanced problem solving and program design.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: (Required Textbook)
Starting Out With C++, Tony Gaddis, 6th Ed, 2009
Other materials: We will be using Visual Studio 2008 as our IDE.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES:
Regular class attendance is expected. The instructor reserves the right to reduce
a student’s grade for excessive absences.
The policy is a letter grade reduction for each four absences. Students with valid excuses such as sickness
or death in the immediate family will be excused. Students are expected to arrive to class on
time and be ready to take notes.
Students are expected to participate in classroom discussion when
appropriate. All cell phone should be
turned off during class time.
STUDENT EVALUATION:
Grades will be based upon formal written examinations and written assignments. The student’s grade will be based upon total points received from the following possible points:

A student's final grade is determined by his or her percentage of the TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS using the following grading scale:
GRADING SCALE
A ................ 90%
B ................ 80%
C ................ 65%
D ................ 55%
Exam Replacement Policy: If the student=s score on the Final Exam is higher than the lowest regular Exam score, the Final Exam score will replace their lowest Exam score in determining the student=s final grade.
Homework Assignment Policy: Assignments are due in class or in the instructor’s office on the due date specified on the assignment. Each student will turn in a hard copy of program assignments along with digital copy. Digital copies will be turned in through my folder on the I drive. Each student will be given a secure folder to turn in assignments on
I:\kingw\CS 2613\student_userid.
The
student_userid is your campus login userid.
Assignments turned in
after due date, may be penalized up to 50% of the value of the assignment.
Withdrawal Policy: November 11th is the ALast Day to Drop with automatic W@. Last Day to drop a single class or withdraw form NSU is December 11th.
Final Exam: Final Exam will be given Monday, December 14 th, at 11:00 a.m.
