Constitution
Article 1: NAME
The name of this organization shall be NSU Japan (abbreviated JNSU).
Article 2: PURPOSE
The purpose of NSU Japan is to promote an appreciation for and understanding of Japanese culture.
Article 3: MEMBERSHIP AND ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA
Section A: Membership criteria
Membership is open to any student, staff or faculty member associated with NSU who 1) has an appreciation and understanding of Japanese culture, and 2) who is interested in promoting Japanese culture. Persons who wish to become members should apply by sending an e-mail message to JNSU (jnsu2005@yahoo.co.jp). The JNSU Public Affairs Officer will answer the request by e-mail. If necessary, he/she may interview the applicant to verity that he/she meets the criteria. Once the Public Affairs Officer is satisfied the applicant meets the criteria, he/she will become a member. Membership can be revoked by the all members in the case of anyone whose behavior may damage the reputation of JNSU. Any member wishing to leave JNSU should notify the Public Affairs Officer or another member of Executive Member by e-mail.
Section B: Non-discrimination, no hazing policy
In accordance with NSU policy, JNSU does not discriminate against anyone who meets the membership criteria, and JNSU does not allow any form of hazing.
Article 4: MEMBERSHIP DUES
No dues are required for membership.
Article 5: OFFICERS
Section A: The Executive Members.
The officers of JNSU shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurers, Publicity Officer, Event Cordinater, Offer Coordinator, and Web Master, who together shall constitute the Executive Members (EMs).
Section B: Requirments for leadership.
Any JNSU officers must be a member of this organization.
Section C: Election of Officers.
A nominating committee shall carry out the election of officers. They will notify JNSU members about the responsibilities of the officers, and disseminate necessary information. They will collect the names of volunteer candidates or nominatees from among the members. If two or more nominees exist for any office, they will have the opportunity to campaign for the position, after which the election will be determined by ballot.
Section D: Terms of Office.
All officers shall serve for the suration of one academic year (fall and spring semesters).
Section E: Special Election.
If an officer terminates his or her office prior to the completion of a term, the other EMs will constitute a Nominating Committee and shall hold a special election for the office.
Article 6: DUTY OF OFFICERS
Section A: All Officers
Attend the regular weekly Executive Members Meeting (EMM).
Notify the other members by email if he or she cannot attend a meeting.
Ensure that contact information (e-mail, telephone, etc.) is current.
Section B: President
The President shall be the chief executive officer.
The President will ensure that JNSU complies with the rules and requirements of student organizations at NSU.
The President shall represent NSU Japan, or designate a substitute, at all required meetings of the NSU student council.
Section C: Vice President
The Vice President shall chair the EMM.
The Vice President shall assume the duties of the president in the absence of the president.
The Vice President shall be in charge of JNSUfs storage.
The Vice President shall make reservation of rooms for all meetings.
Section D: Secretary
The Secretary will maintain the most current version of the constitution and bylaws.
The Secretary shall keep a written record of all official meetings.
The Secretary shall ensure that the President and EMs are informed as to the rules and requirements for student organizations at NSU.
The Secretary shall post the minutes on the blog.
Section E: Treasurer
The Treasurer shall keep a current record of all financial transactions.
The Treasurer, in coordination with the EMs, prepares the budget.
The Treasurer shall develop quarterly reports containing a list of receipts and disbursements.
Section F: Public Affairs Officer
The Public Affairs Officer shall maintain a complete and accurate record of attendance, membership and contact information, including an e-mail address for all members.
The Public Affairs Officer shall make decisions about membership and report it to the next EMM.
Section H: Web Master
The Web master shall maintain and update our website.
Section I: Event Coordinator
The Event Coordinator shall direct planning and practice of all special events and activities.
Section J: Offer Coordinator
The Offer Coordinator will receive requests for JNSU performances or special events, relay the information to the EMs and communicate the decision of the EMs to the requesting person/organization.
The Offer Coordinator will maintain a calendar of upcoming performances or special events.
The Offer Coordinator will take the initial lead in coordinating requested performances or events.
Article 7: AUTHORITY
The officers will make decisions for this organization during the EMM based on the vote of the majority of officers present. During meetings we will respect the opinion of every member.
Article 8: AMENDMENTS
This constitution may be amended at any regular EMM by the approval of the entire EM. In the event that one or more members disagree, the motion to amend the constitution may be approved by two-thirds of the EM present at a subsequent EMM.
Article 9: BYLAWS
The EM may pass any bylaws necessary for the implementation of this constitution, at a regular EMM by a two-thirds vote of EM present.
Article 10:ADOPTION
This constitution will be become effective immediately after approval by the entire EM or two-thirds of the entire EM after each EM has had an opportunity to review it, following a regular EMM.
NSU Japan Bylaws
Article 1: Finances
All money made by JNSU shall be used to support activities of JNSU.
Article 2: Faculty Sponsor
The EMs shall designate a sponsor, in accordance with the requirements of the NSU student organization rules.
Article 3: Meeting
General membership and committee meetings shall be held as needed to accomplish the programs approved by the Executive Members (EM) and purposes of NSU Japan.
