- Initial meeting
- Watch the IRB training video supplied by the IRB Chair. If Windows Media Player will not play the DVD on your computer, install VideoLan Player. You can also view an online copy here.
- Review Robert Amdur's "Institutional Review Board Member Handbook" (available from the Chair or other IRB member), or the HHS webpage on basic IRB review.
- This is what investigators value in their IRBs.
- Review the annotated NSU IRB application form.
- Take the NIH certification course and test. Print out the online certificate and send it to the IRB Chair.

- Practice reviewing applications with Chair or other designated IRB member as needed.

Orientation for IRB Chair and Vice-Chair
- Accessing the IRB website (using WS_FTP, username irb, password as supplied by previous Chair or Dr. Jackson)
- Accessing IRB email on http://webmail.nsuok.edu , user name irb, password as supplied by previous Chair or Dr. Jackson.
- using proper subject lines
- for initial assignments: IRB 10-xxx Member1 and Member2 to review - expedited/full board
- for revisions: IRB 10-xxx needs some changes
- Use of "reply all"
- using canned responses (has already been enabled - settings - labs - enable canned responses)
- approval: to approve application. Modifications not necessary or have all been addressed
- modification, needs sigs: application needs modifications and signature page not received yet
- modification, needs sigs and site: application needs modifications. Signature page and site permissions not received yet
- do not send full revised application: explains that revised applications need more time to approve and asks just to send the modifications in the body of an email.
- review emailed expedited application: assigns reviewers and tells reviewers to email recommendations to chair
- review emailed full board application: assigns reviewers and tells reviewers to discuss at next board meeting
- making changes: insert a canned response, make changes, save as ... (same canned response name)
- meeting minute procedures: form for minutes is on IRB server. Email completed minutes to Academic Affairs / Susan Perry . Each application reviewed has its own review form, which is placed in the chart in the IRB Chair's office. These individual application review forms should NOT be posted to the Academic Affairs shared folder.
