Dr. Vanessa Anton has been teaching in the Health and Kinesiology department since Fall 1997. In addition to teaching in the Health and Kinesiology department, she is the HPE Intern Coordinator. She took a sabbatical to teach and observe at
Penn
State
University
with Dr. George Graham in 2002. She taught in the public schools from 1995-1997, and worked in the health field from 1980-1994. She is certified to teach Physical Education, Health, Safety, Accounting, Business Law, Business Math, Computers in Business/Information Processing, Economics, General Business, Keyboarding, and Vocational Business in the state of
Oklahoma
.
She is past vice-president and past president of the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD). She won their highest award, the Honor Award, in 2008, and in 2007 won the OAHPERD Scholar Award. She has served on many committees on the OAHEPRD Board and Council, and is currently the chair of Strategic Planning and the OAHPERD Journal editor.
Dr. Anton is also currently the vice-president elect for physical education for the Southern District (13 states) of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (SDAAHPERD), and most recently served at the chair for the SDAAHPERD Elementary Teacher of the Year Award. She also serves on the SDAAHPERD Constitution and By-Laws committee. In addition, she serves on several NSU committees, such as the Institutional Review Board, and is Chair of the Faculty Research committee.
She has numerous presentations and publications at the state, regional and national levels. Currently she is writing a golf curricula for K-5 that can be used both in the public schools and in communities outside of the schools with Dr. Robert Pangrazi (
Arizona
State
University
).
