Picture Book Format

Shape - may suggest content, often decided by the illustrator and art director of a publishing company.

Dust Cover - primarily designed to call attention to the book.May call attention to the theme.

Endpapers - the first and last pages of a book.One half is glued to the inside of the cover, while the other is not pasted down.These are usually stronger than the paper on the printed pages and often harmonize with the cover.They might even be illustrated.They may reflect the theme, setting or content of the book.

Title pages - can be symbolic, might provide clues to the theme, extend the story or reinforce the meaning.

Layout - All elements must work together to create a pleasant and cohesive whole that pleases the childand         delights the imagination.
