Resolution of the Faculty Council of the Northeastern Faculty Association

Whereas Northeastern State University strives to be the premier regional university in Oklahoma and the surrounding states and has just selected a new president to replace Dr. Larry Williams who has led the University for the past eleven years;

Whereas Dr. Don Betz, after a career of 37 years in higher education, has been named the 16th president of Northeastern State University;

<>Whereas Dr. Don Betz began his career as an assistant professor of political science at Northeastern State University in 1971;

Whereas Dr. Don Betz served Northeastern State University until 1994 in such roles as Vice President for University Relations, Dean of Continuing Studies, Director of Sequoyah Institute, executive Director of the Educational Foundation and finally Professor of Political Science;

Whereas Dr. Don Betz founded and nurtured both the President’s Leadership Class and the Model United Nations at Northeastern State University;

Whereas Dr. Don Betz created and chaired the International Coordinating Committee on the Question of Palestine (ICCP), a UN-affiliated non-governmental organization (NGO) network pursing peace in the Middle East based on UN resolutions;

Therefore let it be resolved that the Faculty Council of the Northeastern Faculty Association welcomes Dr. Don Betz as our next president and pledges our cooperation and support as well as wishing him a lengthy tenure leading Northeastern State University into its second century of higher education, research and service to northeastern Oklahoma, the region and the world.
