| Programs in the Department of Languages and Literature |
General Education: |
The general education components of the English department
include English 0123 (Fundamentals of English), English 1113
(Freshman Composition I), English 1213 (Freshman Composition
II), and English 3413 (World Literature). All entering students
must take English 1113 and 1213, except those who test out
or transfer with approved credit for equivalent courses.
Entering students who score below 19 on the ACT must take
the College Placement Entrance Test in Sentence Completion.
Those who score under 85 on the CPET must take English 0123
as a prerequisite to 1113.
Two undergraduate majors are offered in our English Program:
the Bachelor of Arts in (English) Education and the Bachelor
of Arts in English. The Bachelor of Arts in English Education
is intended to give students the knowledge and understanding
to teach English in the secondary school. The Bachelor of Arts
in English is intended to give the student an excellent undergraduate
education in English Language and Literature. The department
also offers the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (Spanish).
The Bachelor of Arts in Education is also available with a
Spanish major.

To obtain a MINOR in a language (other than English), the
student must earn 18 hours in only one language area.

Elementary Russian I and II (1113, 1123) are also course
offerings in the English and Languages Department. In
the Spring of 2001 Russian 1123 will be provided via ITV
from East Central University (Ada).
