Guidelines for E-mail and Telephone in My Online Criminal Justice Courses

The following are the Guidelines for E-mail and Telephone in this Course:

General Information:

1. I prefer to receive e-mail in most situations.

2. Make sure that you have sent me your contact information as requested at the start of the course.

E-Mail Guidelines:

1. The e-mail subject line should be as follows:

        a. The first part of the subject line should have the course identification for the course you are enrolled in, for example: CJ1013-, or CJ4113-, or CJ3603-.

        b. The second part of the subject line should be the subject of the e-mail message, for example: - Assignment # 9, or Writing Proposal, or I Have a Question, or Course Paper.

        c. The e-mail subject line should look something like this: CJ1013- Assignment # 3.

2. Each e-mail should only have one subject. If you have two subjects, then you should send two e-mails. If you have two assignments, then send two e-mails. I have to keep these things organized and I cannot do a good job if an e-mail has a number of items in it.

3. Each e-mail should have your name in it. I have no idea who dog678@bone.com or wildfish@deepblue.net is. Put your name on each e-mail.

4. If you send your e-mail message from an e-mail address that you do not want me to send the replay to, either state so in the body of the e-mail or better yet, put a "replay to" address on the e-mail message. That way the reply will go where you want it to go automatically.

5. Do not send attachments unless directed to by me. I will not open attachments that I am not expecting. That is one good way to get and spread computer viruses.

6. Do not have the return receipt function turned on.

7. This is an academic course and we should try to follow good English and grammar usage. Use your spell check. Remember that the word "I" is always capitalized.

8.  Keep at least one copy of your work.  That way,  if something happens, you will not have to do everything over.  Your e-mail sent file is a good way of having a second backup as well as showing the date you sent it.

9. Assignments not following these guidelines will be returned and not counted until corrected and returned to me.

10. I should not get e-mails from you that do not conform with these guidelines after you have read the guidelines here.

11. Please use my cld1@fastmail.us e-mail address for everything to do with my online courses.

Telephone Guidelines:

1. I normally return phone calls between 10:00 (10:00 am) and 22:00 (10:00 pm). Late afternoon and early evenings are most often used for this purpose.

2. I normally do not leave messages on answering machines or voice mail. If you screen calls this way, you may want to stop if you are waiting for my call.

3. If you have caller ID, you will see that NSU has a number of outgoing lines. Calls placed be me, even if one is close to the other, may be from different numbers.

4. Do not try to answer the call from NSU on the number on the caller ID. Use the central number [ (918)456-5511] or another number you may know.

5. If you leave an voice message, please remember to tell who you are, the course you are taking, the problem you have encountered and slowly give your return number.
