RECENT STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

*Timothy Moore (Senior, Trumpet Performance) performed with the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra on their October 29, 2011 concert.

*The NSU Baroque Trumpet Ensemble (Kristen Layne, Timothy Moore, Jared Wallis, Jospeh Tiger, Jason Dovel) performed at the 2011 Midwest Trumpet Festival in Kansas.

*Jared Wallis (Sophomore, Music Education) worked at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan as a staff member for the 2011 summer camp.  He performed in the Staff Jazz Ensemble, Staff Band, and a staff brass quintet.

*Timothy Moore (Senior, Trumpet Performance) attended the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, Colorado, where he was one of four finalists in the Mock Orchestral Audition.  The complete NSU news story can be found here.

*Congratulations to Timothy Moore who won the 2010-11 NSU Concerto Competition.

*Congratulations to Timothy Moore (Junior, Performance major) who attended the 2010 International Baroque Trumpet Workshop in Bloomington, IN this summer.
 
*Congratulations to Michael Black (BME, Dec. 2009) who has been hired as the Director of Bands at Panama High School.

Recent (Fall 2009) Events:
The NSU trumpet studio was fortunate to have three guest artists visit and present recitals in Fall 2009, including Brian Walker, Peter Wood, and Oscar Passley.  The International Trumpet Guild article about these artists' visit to NSU can be found here.

Dr. Peter Wood, guest trumpet artist
Dr. Peter Wood, trumpet, and Dr. Robert Holm, piano, both from the University of South Alabama, perform a guest artist recital at the NSU jazz lab on Oct. 12, 2009.  Both artists also presented master classes on their respective instruments to NSU students.
 
 

Latest news:

Congratulations to sophomore trumpet student Kristen Layne for being selected as Oklahoma's 2009 Collegiate Jazz Musician of the Year!

Congratulations to graduating senior Jason Ashmore for being selected, by national audition, to the 2009 National Intercollegiate Band in Phoeneix, Arizona.

Older NSU Trumpet News:
The 2nd annual  NSU Trumpet Festival was extremely successful!  This event was held on February 7, 2009 and featured Vince DiMartino.  Over 100 guests attended this event that was covered on the ITG website .  
Congratulations to the entire trumpet studio for an outstanding studio recital on Dec. 9, 2008.  

Recent Student Accomplishments:

Congratulations to Kristen Layne , freshman, for winning the lead trumpet spot with Oklahoma Bandmasters' Association All-Star Jazz Band

Congratulations to Michael Black, senior, for receiving the Academic Achievement Award at the NSU spring honors banquet.  Michael Black has also been named part-time instructor of bands for the Keys School District.

Congratulations to Jared Brown, junior, for being appointed section leader of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps (Wisconsin), 2008 season

Many trumpet students have been selected for leadership positions with the 2008 NSU Riverhawk Marching Band:  Michael Black, drum major, Jason Ashmore, band captain, Kyle Williams, trumpet section leader

The NSU Riverhawk Marching Band camp will be August 11 - 15, 2008.

In April, Dr. Dovel traveled to Bowling Green, Ohio as a guest of Bowling Green State University trumpet professor Charles Saenz.  As part of the visit, Dr. Dovel presented a recital and master class.  Saenz was previously a guest artist at NSU in February 2008.

Fall 2007 News:

Guest Arist: Logan Place, trumpet instructor at Southeastern Lousiana Univeristy in Hammond, Louisiana, presented a master class at 4 p.m. in the instrumental rehearsal room and then a recital on November 6, 2007 at 7 p.m. in the NSU Jazz Lab.  For more information, visit the coverage of this event on the International Trumpet Guild website.
