Trumpet Faculty
Dr. Jason Dovel, Assistant Professor of Trumpet
Dr. Jason Dovel joined the NSU faculty in 2007. A versatile performer on the modern trumpet, Baroque trumpet, and cornetto, he holds a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas. He has performed with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera Orchestra, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and the Orchestra of New Spain. He has recorded several discs for the GIA Windworks label with the North Texas Wind Symphony and has also recorded with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra (Naxos Records) and the Bowling Green Philharmonia (Albany Records). He currently serves as a recordings reviewer for the International Trumpet Guild Journal. He previously served on the faculties of the University of North Texas and North Central Texas College. Dr. Bailey held a distinguished 27-year career as a professor at Northeastern State University. He earned a bachelor's degree from East Central State University (Oklahoma) and a master's and doctorate from the University of North Texas. During his academic career at University of North Texas, Robert was a student of John Haynie. Beginning in 1969, he performed as a trumpeter in the US Navy. After the Navy, Bailey taught public school band in Oklahoma where his bands received consistent superior ratings. While continuing to perform throughout Oklahoma, Bailey plays in numerous professional ensembles including the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra.
