Spring Campus Speaker!!!

We had the WONDERFUL privilege of having Mr. Hornsby on our campus in spring 2006
to give a talk for which we packed the NET Auditorium with over 300 people,

and HE's BACK for a sequel talk...

John Hornsby, M.S.
  UNO- Mathematics

John Hornsby is a native of New Roads, Louisiana, and a lifelong resident of the Bayou State.  He received his B.S. in Mathematics Education from Louisiana State University and his M.S. in Mathematics from Southeastern Louisiana University.   He taught for several years at the high school level before becoming an Instructor in Mathematics at the University of New Orleans in 1979.  He retired in 1996 and now devotes his time to his family and his books.  He has co-authored over
fifty editions of textbooks ranging from beginning algebra to precalculus in the Lial mathematical series, published by Addison Wesley.  His teaching interests include mathematics for the liberal arts, incorporating graphing calculators in precalculus courses, and the history of mathematics.  He is an avid baseball fan, collects coins, and loves the music of the 1960s.

John Hornsby will be coming to present a sequel to his very well-received talk
from spring 2007 called "Math Class Goes to Hollywood"...

The title of this talk is:

  "Math Class Returns to Hollywood"

and the abstract is:

Throughout the years writers, producers, directors, and actors have provided tidbits of mathematics education in movies and television.  Remember the Scarecrow
getting a brain?  How can we learn mathematics from Homer Simpson?  or Jeff Foxworthy and his redneck friends?  Some of the scenes are GOOD, some are
BAD, and some are downright UGLY.  This presentation will offer a collection of such mathematics-related videos...

Come laugh and learn as "Math Class Returns to Hollywood"!!!

This talk will be in... NET Auditorium on Friday, Feb 3 @ 1pm!!!
