Teaching and Learning Fellowship Application

Submission Deadline:  October 30

The Teaching and Learning Committee, comprised of faculty from each academic college, is inviting applications and nominations for Teaching and Learning Fellowships.  Fellowship recipients, Teaching and Learning Fellows (one from each college) will serve as resources for faculty in their respective colleges in support of faculty development.  The mission is "to foster a culture of excellence in teaching and learning by assisting faculty with their scholarship of teaching, by acting as a resource center for new teaching techniques and programs, and by supporting the University in becoming a community of lifelong learners."

Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year should focus on the incorporation of technology-rich environments to provide learner-centered principles of collaboration, active feedback, real-world experiences, and engagement. This is what Diana Oblinger, president of Educause calls Learning 3.0 and John Seely-Brown refers to as Learning 2.0. Additional information regarding these concepts can be found in the proceedings for the 2008 AASCU/Educause conference Students, Technology, and Learning: Strategies for Success.

Teaching and Learning Fellows will be awarded $1,000 to support scholarly activities related to improving student learning.  The fellowship activities would be evidence for the scholarship of teaching and learning in a faculty member’s professional file.  The application will include a narrative description of five areas and, a letter of recommendation from the applicant's department chair.  The letter should address how the fellowship activities will strengthen the department and/or college.  The five areas of the narrative should address the following.  Please use headings to distinguish each area.

  1. Name, Department, College, Title of Fellowship Application.
  1. Plan of Action (a description of your plan of action for using this fellowship award).  The plan should include goals and objectives, activities to accomplish your objectives, and measurable outcomes of the objectives.
