About Me
I
was born and raised in a small town in Kansas
called Maize (just over 41 years ago).
I graduated from high school there in a class of 78 students. After graduation, I joined the Marine
Corps. My father had been a Marine,
and my brother and sister were both Marines. I have been overseas to Okinawa, Japan,
which I loved, but that was my only time spent overseas. After I became a mother, followed
closely by Desert Storm, I decided that I didn’t want to go overseas
again and have to leave my children behind (my mother wasn’t too thrilled
with the idea of taking care of a newborn baby while I was in Iraq since my
younger son was born in July of 1990 and deployments began in August of 1990). No, I didn’t leave the Marine
Corps. Instead, I signed on for a
special program where I trained reservists and was only stationed where
reservists were. So, the remainder
of my time in the Marine Corps was spent in the Midwest. I was stationed in Oklahoma
City, Kansas City, Broken Arrow, Des Moines, Wichita, and back to Des
Moines, in that order. My children loved it when we were
stationed here, so when I retired, we decided to come back here.
I
always took college courses while I was in the Marine Corps. My transcripts were a pain in the rear
to get together since they’re from seven different colleges. I took a variety of courses, but I never
really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Then it dawned on me that I really
enjoyed teaching classes to and training the reserve Marines. That’s when I decided that I
wanted to be a teacher. So, here I
am attending Northeastern
State University
as an Elementary Education major.
I’m hoping to graduate in December 2008.
When
I have time, I enjoy reading, sewing, working on my cars, and hanging out with
my kids. One of our favorite
activities that we don’t do very often is to race the go-carts at
Incredible Pizza. (That’s my
son Ben in the #20 car.)
