Fall Semester 2009
Research Paper
REL 2113: Introduction to the Old Testament
Instructions:
The assignment is to write a research paper on a topic from the Old Testament that interests you. However, topics must be approved in advance by the instructor. The paper should be 8-12 pages in length, excluding the bibliography. In addition, it should be typed and double spaced, with no more than one inch margins. Important points should be referenced with the appropriate citation(s), and all citations are expected to be reflected in the bibliography at the end of the paper. Also, each item listed in the bibliography should be cited at least once in the text of the paper. When referencing or quoting passages from the Bible, be sure to include the Bible's book, chapter, and verse. The citations and bibliography should be formatted in APA, MLA, Turabian, or Chicago. The bibliography should contain a minimum of eight sources, including at least:
1. Two published professional journal articles.
2. Two published books.
3. The Bible.
Grade:
This assignment is worth a maximum of 40 points (or 40% of the course grade). The grade will be based on the content and clarity of the paper, and the quality of the resources cited in the paper and listed in the bibliography. Papers that fall outside of the 8-12 page restriction will receive a reduced grade. A well written paper that is 8 pages in length is likely to receive a higher grade than a poorly written paper that is 12 pages in length, so the length of the paper is not the key to a high grade. The expression of your thoughts, opinions and beliefs are welcome, although not required. However, please keep in mind that this is intended to be a research paper, and not an opinion paper.
Due Date:The assignment is due on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Late papers are subject to a penalty of 2 points per day after the due date. Papers may be submitted in class or via e-mail attachment to the instructor (cheatham@nsuok.edu) in Word or WordPerfect. Please let the instructor know if you have any questions about the assignment, or if you there are any circumstances that prevent you from turning in the assignment by the due date.
