Immunodeficiency with thrombocytopenia (Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (AKA:  immunodeficiency with thrombocytopenia and eczema)
  • X-linked recessive
  • vulnerable to recurrent infections
  • Always a progressive T-cell deficit
  • Sometimes also a B-cell deficit
  • Spleen shows near-complete absence of white pulp
  • Poor antibody response to polysaccharide antigens
  • IgM levels in the serum are low
  • IgA and IgE are elevated
  • Patients are prone to develop malignant melanoma
