ROTC is not only about academics. Cadets must also strive to be athletes and leaders. In order to be a good leader in the U.S. Army, a person must be able to lead his or her soldiers from the front and set a positive example for them to follow. ROTC not only prepares a person to become an officer in the military, it also develops necessary leadership and management skills to be successful in the coporate world. Ret. Secretary of State Colin Powell, Wal-mart owner Sam Walton, and former head football coach of the University of Notre Dame Lou Holtz all received their initial leadership training through ROTC. Also, having participated in such a highly respected program looks great on a résumé.
Let the Army pay for your college expenses. The vast majority of NSU cadets are receiving financial assistance. ROTC scholarships pay for tuition and fees OR room and board (in case the cadet has another scholarship covering tuition,) $450 per semester for books, and a $300 to $500 monthly stipend (depending on what year the cadet is in.) Many additional benefits are available for veterans and members of the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves.
