An Introduction to Library Databases

January 8, 2004

How to get started:

Ask students what they are trying to locate:
Is is for a long term paper or short speech?
For which class is it? What is the subject area?
    Where have they already looked?
Do they need books, periodicals, internet sources, etc.
Try to narrow a topic:
    By a time period
    By a geographic area
    By special interest group

Subject Headings:

Subject headings verses keywords, boolean logic
