STUDENT PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES: (Attendance/Punctuality)

All students must have a reliable computer connection to the campus.  Students must have an NSU userID and password in order to log onto the distance ed. software.  To find out more about requirements for logging onto Blackboard, go to:

<>( http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/~wooddg/atc_files/students.htm )
OR
http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/%7Ectl/distance_learning.html

If there are questions about servers, these should be dealt with prior to the first online discussion, quiz, or test.

Test 3 will be turned in as a WORD or WordPerfect document.  Please do not use the instructor drop box if it is enabled.    WORKS documents will not be accepted.  Any deviations from this software should be cleared with the instructor and tested prior to assignment due dates.   Assignments (TEST 3) turned in after the due date posted in the syllabus will receive a 25% grade reduction.

Tests will be posted on Fridays and must be completed by 11:00 p.m.  the following Sunday.  The only exceptions would be for incomplete transfer of information.

Discussion questions will be posted on Monday, and all questions and responses must be posted by Sunday at 11:00 p.m.  of the same week, unless otherwise stated by the instructor.  No discussion questions or responses will be accepted after the due date. Students will need this information to study for tests.  Points will be awarded based on the quality of contribution.  (See the matrix below)

Discussion Board Guidelines:

This class will be searching the web and other sources to find illustrations and explanations of various processes.  The reason for this exercise is to give the class more exposure to the various  processes and how they can be applied in manufacturing products.  Pictures are very helpful in visualizing the processes, thus more points will be awarded for finding good quality pictures showing applications of processes as indicated in the evaluation matrix below.

NOTE:  No points will be awarded for summaries that are cut and pasted from web sites or online research papers.  Summaries are to be your own interpretation of information.

Evaluation of Discussion Questions
Points
9-10 Find and post a  video clip of a process AND a clearly written summary or description of the process application that is complete enough so other students do not  have to read the information contained in the site.
 OR
Find and post a site that shows a series of related photoes showing a process or concept AND a clearly written summary or description  of the site contents so it is not necessary for other students to read the information contained in the site.
OR
If the discussion item does not lend itself to pictures, post a detailed summary of the information requested AND a bibliographical reference so students and the instructor can access the same information.   The summary should be complete enough that students will not have to access the references.
8-7 Post a  single good quality  picture of the process AND a clearly written summary or description of the process application.
5-6
Post a well written description of the process or information required..
3-4 Post a  Good  picture of a process only.
1-2 A poor  picture  that is not particularly applicable to the process, or a poorly written or incorrect process description,
OR
Post a link to a site that is relavant to the question.

Posting Online Questions for the Instructor:

Please send the question directly to your instructor using e-mail.    Your question should include a brief statement of  your research so the instructor will know where you have looked for an answer already and avoid  giving unecessary information.  Questions that have application to all student needs may be repeated anonymously on a discussion board so all will benefit from the question and answer.

Example:
Steve Archer
Group #2

According to the text, page (x)  a broach can not be used in a blind hole.  What's a blind hole?  How does this affect the use of a broach?

ASSIGNMENT DUE DATES:

Tests are due by 11:00 p.m. on the due date specified in the calendar.   Assignments (Test3) turned in after the due date will receive a 25% reduction.

Discussion questions are due on the date indicated in the syllabus.  The discussion will be considered closed after that date and time.

Tests will be posted on Fridays, and should be completed by 11:00 on the following Sunday (same week).  The final will be posted on the last day of classes.

STUDENT EVALUATION:

1. Grades will be based upon formal written examinations,  research (Test 3),  and meaningful class discussion/participation.

Quiz 1
  10 pts.
Exams
300 pts.
Test 3 - Takehome test/Research
100 pts.
Discussion Board Participation
  40 pts.
Total
450 pts.

2. Examinations, discussion board contributions, and the take home exam.  will constitute the formal written evaluation instruments utilized in this course.

3. Grades will be based on the highest earned student total.  Percentage may be calculated by dividing the  total points earned by the largest earned student total.  (The highest earned number of points will be posted after each assignment, quiz, or test.)
90 - 100 =  A  80 -  89 =   B  70 -  79 =   C  60 - 69 =    D  Below 60 = F

4. Students are advised that the last date during the semester when they may drop a course with an automatic "W" will be June 23.  The last date to drop a class or withdraw is June 29.

5. The research/proposal assignment will be a group  project.    The student groups  will take prints for a machined product and specify operations based on quality, cost and quantity criteria.

ADA COMPLIANCE:

If any member of the class feels that he/she has a disability and needs special accommodations, please advise the instructor of such disability at the first class attended.
