John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” are the words of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, our 35th president. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard in 1940 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter as commander of PT 109.

After the war, Kennedy was elected to Congress, then to the Senate. He married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953. Kennedy was gifted in many areas and won the Pulitzer Prize in history for his book, Profiles in Courage. In 1960, Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon in one of the closest presidential elections in history. John F. Kennedy was the youngest man elected to the presidency. He was also the youngest to die. He was assassinated in Dallas Texas on November 22, 1963.

The White House Web Site[1] provides biographical information and a picture for all presidents and their wives. The John F. Kennedy Library is also an excellent source of information on President Kennedy. The picture at the left was taken from The History Place
