To Whom It May Concern:

______________________ is a student in a nonprofit organization communication class this semester.  As a requirement of the course, s/he must spend a minimum of 20 service learning hours in a local nonprofit organization.  S/he would like to spend those hours within your organization.  If you agree to allow the student this opportunity, we ask that you allow him or her a variety of opportunities within your organization, including (but not limited to) visiting your office(s), attending board meetings and events, observing employee and/or volunteer training, looking at public records pertaining to your nonprofit, etc.  The student will be a “fly on the wall” but should also act as any volunteer in your organization.

It may also be necessary for the student to interview people associated with your organization.  At the end of the course, the student may choose to write a consultation report for your nonprofit.  The student consultants generally make these available to the organizations in which they volunteered.  Many executive directors and boards of directors have found these reports to be very helpful in past semesters.

If you agree to allow the above named student to complete a minimum of 20 service learning hours in your organization during this semester and you agree to serve as this student’s supervisor within the organization, please sign below.  We appreciate your consideration.  If you have any questions, please contact me at 918.444.3608.  The syllabus for the course can be viewed at http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/~aldridga/nonprofit.htm .

Sincerely,

Amy Aldridge Sanford, PhD

Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
