Extended Interview Assignment

1.     You and your interview partner need to schedule a one-hour block at the Communication Lab (CL).  (Remember, you will have to do this twice.  Once as an interviewer and once as an interviewee).

2.     Take a  8MM tape with you for the CL digital camera.

3.     Record your 15-minute interview.

4.     Receive feedback from the CL consultant and review the tape.  The consultant will use three critique formsRecruiter Form (for the interviewer) and Applicant Form (for the interviewee), and the standard CL report.  (You will have to bring the recruiter and applicant forms; they have the CL reports).

5.     Using the information from your textbook (in particular Chapter 8), write at least 3 FULL pages (but no more than 5 pages) addressing three key issues in employment interviewing.  Use examples from both of your videos.  IÕm looking for depth and real understanding.  I need to know you can apply the information youÕve learned from the book.

6.     This paper should be typed, double spaced throughout, Times New Roman 12-point font.  Margins should be 1Ó all the way around.  Only justify the left margin. Use APA standards for formatting and references.

7.     As with any essay, you should make your thesis/preview very clear within your introduction.  Failure to do so will eliminate any chances of making an A on this assignment.  You also need very clear transitions between your main points in the body of the paper.

8.     Find somebody to proofread your paper.  We do have a Writing Lab on the 1st floor of Seminary Hall.  They have tutors who will proofread for you.  Be sure to show him/her this assignment sheet.

9.     Staple copies of both of your CL reports to the back of the paper.  You do not have to return Recruiter Form A or Applicant Form A.  Those are for your learning and will not help or hurt your final grade.

10.  This assignment is worth 100 points.
