The forensics program of
Five preliminary rounds of parliamentary debate will be offered on Friday. If requested, five preliminary rounds of Lincoln Douglas Debate and IPDA also be offered on Friday. Students may only enter one of the three debate events (NPDA, IPDA, LD) held on Friday.
Debaters and Speakers will be allowed to enter both
individual events and debate in this tournament. Two preliminary rounds will be offered in all
11 AFA-NIET events on Saturday. If
requested, Reader’s Theatre will also take place on Saturday. The IE tournament
will include
The Friday portion of the tournament will be an ‘open tab’ meaning that coaches are free to come into the tab room to see the ballots and record of their teams. The Saturday portion will include a 15-minute verification period prior to each pattern of finals in the tab room.

Tournament Information***
Event Guidelines:
AFA-NIET rules will be followed in the participation and tabbing of all individual events. Students may enter a maximum of three events per pattern. Semifinals will be held in all events with 40 or more entries. Finals will be held in all events with more than 7 contestants. The patterns are:
Pattern A: (EXT, POI, PERS, DUO,
Pattern B: (IMP, PRO, INF, DI, ADS)
Parliamentary Debate will follow NPDA guidelines. Lincoln Douglas Debate will follow NFA guidelines. International Public Debate will follow IPDA guidelines. Reader’s Theatre will follow Phi Rho Pi guidelines. In order for NPDA, IPDA, LD, or RT to count toward sweepstakes, at least three schools must enter and compete in that event.
Entry deadline and contacts:
Entries must be received by 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2008. The add/drop deadline is 12:00 noon, Wednesday, February 20, 2008. You can send your team’s entry on the provided entry sheet via email to the following address: wakefield@ou.edu.
Entry and drop Fees:
Tournament entry fees will be $5 per covered individual event slot. NPDA and RT entries are $40 per covered team. LD and IPDA entries are $20 per covered slot. Drops made after the add/drop deadline will result in the loss of the initial entry fee. Also, debate changes made after 10am of Thursday, February 21, 2008 and IE changes made after 10am of Friday, February 22, 2008 will result in the loss of the entry fee and an additional nuisance fee of $10 per IE slot. $20 per LD and IPDA slot, and $40 for each debate team and reader’s theatre. No shows will be treated as drops and charged accordingly. Competitors that do not show up to both IE prelim rounds or all debate prelims rounds will be considered drops. Any judges dropped on the day before the competition will incur a $50 nuisance fee and judges dropped the day of competition will incur a $100 nuisance fee that must be settled with the tournament director before finals.
Judges:
Schools are required to bring one qualified judge for every 6 individual events slots or fraction thereof. Schools must provide one judge for every 2 debate teams or fraction thereof. A limited number of judges are available for a fee of $10 per uncovered IE slot and $65 per uncovered debate entry. Judges are responsible for one round beyond their students’ participation. If any judge does not pick up their ballots for an assigned round, their school becomes ineligible for Sweepstakes awards.
Wireless Access:
In order to be in compliance with Homeland Security mandates, NSU’s Computing and Telecommunications department cannot make an open wire available to our guests. There will be members of C & T available on Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Seminary Hall foyer (next to the registration table) to assign guest logins and passwords. After 2:30 p.m. on Friday, speech and debate guests may get a guest login and password by visiting NET 212. Students and coaches will have to have a photo ID in order to gain access to NSU’s wireless network.
Awards:
All IE finalists and debate elimination round contestants will receive awards. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools for both the debate and IE portion of the tournament. The top three individuals in the IE sweepstakes will receive awards (you must be entered in at least 3 IE events to be eligible for IE sweepstakes). Depending on the number of entries, the top 3-5 speakers in parli will receive awards. An overall sweepstakes award will be given to the top school and top speaker for both portions of the tournament (you must attend participate in both debate and IEs to be eligible for overall sweepstakes).
The following will be used to calculate sweepstakes awards. Each team’s top 4 slots in each event will be counted toward sweepstakes. Schools shall receive the following sweepstakes points for finalists and preliminary wins:

3rd Place – 4 points sweepstakes total but ties will be broken
4th Place – 3 points based upon the number of wins versus
5th Place – 2 points the number of byes.)
