Model United Nations is a class offered at NSU (Northeastern State University) that prepares students for conferences in the Fall and Spring Semesters that simulate an actual United Nations Conference. This course offers students interested in Politics the opportunity to participate in a simulation of the inner-workings of a real political environment including the use of Robert’s Rules of Parliamentary Procedure, Caucusing to provide Resolutions to important issues in the world, and a general overall appreciation of world events. If you are interested in what is going on in the World, this is the class for you.
Government and International Studies Society is the umbrella student organization that MUN falls under. Unlike other student organizations dealing in politics, we are less concerned about events and issues occurring on the local and state level. Our focus and goal is the understanding and experience of the International Community as a whole, ranging from how U.S. domestic policy affects the whole world, to how the massacres in Myanmar (Burma) affect each one of us. In other words, the emphasis is on the bigger picture. We offer students the opportunity to join a student organization where the discussion of politics is not only ok, it is EXPECTED. We also offer the chance to participate in Student Organization Activities such as the Halloween Carnival and tentatively starting in the Spring 2008 semester, to proceed over NSU’s own High School Model United Nations Conference. Everyone is welcome, liberal or conservative; our Organization is an overall equal mix of both.
