The New York Times provides general news articles on all subjects from 1851 to the present.

                                       How do I cite sources using M.L.A. style?

The M.L.A. Handbook for Writers of Research Papers is located on the first floor at the call number, Ready Ref. LB 2369.G53.  Also, try the MLA Web site. Use the CLIP Tutorial on Citations and CLIP Tutorial on Plagiarism.

How do I locate older periodicals?


1. Locate the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature (Index AI 3.R48)and select the appropriate year. Look for the subject. Ask a librarian for help with subject headings.
2. Write the citation(s) for the articles. The citation includes the author, name of the periodical, volume, date, and pages.
3. Use the Online Catalog and search for the magazine by title.  Record the call number and location.
4. Go to the second floor and find the magazine on the shelf or on microfilm.
5. Use the citation from the index to determine the volume and page numbers of the article.
6. Ask a student assistant at the first floor Circulation Desk for help retrieving the article.
7. There is a microfilm reader/printer on second floor for making copies of microfilm.  There is a photocopier and two scanners on first floor near the Reserve Desk for making copies of print resources.
