How do I get assistance in the Library?
If you need help, go to the Reference Desk in the middle of the first
floor. Librarians provide assistance Monday through Friday, 9:00
a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
You may
call ext. 3241 to contact a librarian or refer to our list of resource
coordination librarians to ask a librarian a question. The
library is here to help you, so please do not hesitate to ask questions.
How do I find a book to read?
There are several locations in which fiction books are located.
On the third floor, fiction books can be found in the Y Collection in
the "F" section. This is a collection of books that has young
adult fiction. It is an easy area to browse. Fiction books
are also located in the PZZ (mostly detective and mystery) sections of
the third floor. Another area which contains fiction is the PS
section. However, this area contains nonfiction, also.
For assistance in selecting a book based on genre, try the
English 0113 Author page.If
you know the author of a book, search the
Library Catalog by changing the
search from title to author and typing the author's
last name first. To find books in the Y Collection, do an
advanced keyword search. Type in a keyword and then limit the
search by location to John Vaughan, Y Collection. Another approach is
to do a subject search on "Readers
(Secondary)."
How do I find a magazine to read?
There are many popular magazines available to read in the Browsing
section of the library located on the first floor, on the east and
southeast
walls. These titles are organized by subject.
Some of the magazines contain short stories and poetry.
When searching for a magazine article on a particular subject, use an
index such as
Readers'
Guide or
Masterfile
Premier.
These indexes are available through the
John Vaughan Library Home Page.
Using your NT userid and password, these resources may be used from
off- campus.
