General WWW Resources for Geographers
- Geography at About.com.
Matt Rosenberg maintains an extensive, annotated set of links and also
provides original overviews to a host of general geographic
subjects. This resource is a part of About.com (formerly The
Mining Company) which searches for, and
annotates, links from the WWW in a variety of subject categories.

GREAT first stop on the web for a geographer!
- Global
Connections. "a family of sites created to
help teachers, students, and the general public learn more about events
around the world through readings, lesson plans, links,
timelines, and maps." From PBS.
- Resources
for geographers. This is an excellent, extensive list of WWW
resources for geographers maintained by the Virtual Geography
Department Project at the University of Colorado (formerly at the
University of Texas at Austin). It contains many listings in such
categories as professional associations, academic departments,
journals, meetings, maps, geo-spatial data, and jobs for geographers.
- Electronic
Resources for Geography. A well-maintained set of links for
K-16 teachers of geography by Lewis A. Armstrong, Abilene Christian
University.
- Alexandria Home Page.
Univ. of California, Santa Barbara's Alexandria Project--a consortium
for distributing a digital library of geographically-referenced
information.
- Search. This site gives
access to many different search engines. You only have to remember one
address!
- OneWorld Online. An
on-line magazine including over 1,000 global organizations working for
social justice; covers many environmental issues.
- NationMaster.com.
"Everything about Everywhere." Graphically compare nations
on
over 500 variables.
- World
Factbook (CIA). Maps and overviews of socio-economic
informations of all the countries of the world provided by the the U.S.
Central Intelligence
Agency.
- Xpeditions
(National Geographic Society). Home of geography standards on
the Internet. This unprecedented array of resources makes teaching and
learning about our world easier than ever before. Great source of
printable outline
maps.
- YaleGlobal Online.
"YaleGlobal online magazine is the flagship publication of the
Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. The magazine explores the
implications of the growing interconnectedness of the world."

- GIS Data Depot.
Lots of free geo-spatial data for downloading.
- GIS
Gateway. At the U.S. Census Bureau. This is page offers
connections to many
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) resources available on the
Internet.
- Landform
Atlas of the United States. Digital elevation models,
satellite views, and lots of links to other info. about each
state. GREAT starting
point for information about a state.
- Maps
and References. An extensive set of links to on-line atlases and
maps. The list is maintained by the Center for Global & Regional
Environmental
Research at the University of Iowa.
- Outline
Map Links. A collection of links to a variety of web sites
with printable outline maps.
- WorldAtlas.com.
Another simple electronic world atlas.
- Perry-Castañeda
Library Map Collection. From the University of Texas at Austin. A
collection of scanned maps including maps relevant to current
events, maps of
general interest, and historical maps.
- TerraServer-USA.
Aerial
photos & topo. maps for U.S. and some international
locations
- TopoZone.com.
The
TopoZone is the Web's center for topographic maps. They
have worked with the USGS to create the Web's first interactive topo
map of the entire United States. They have USGS 1:200,000,
1:100,000, 1:50,000, and 1:25,000 scale maps for the entire United
States. And it's FREE to use online.
- Xpeditions
Atlas. A simple world atlas with printable maps (from
National
Geographic Society). Great source for outline maps.
- Ziehr's

sources, and geography resources.
Weather
- CNN Interactive: Weather.
Great link to world, national, and regional weather information, maps,
and images.
- Intellicast. A great
site for weather and ski reports; includes USA, World, selected cities,
satellite images, regional radar, and NEXRAD.
- Interactive
Weather Information Network. Provides a user-friendly
interface to a host of links including local weather, national weather,
and world
weather. Maintained by National Weather Service Headquarters in
Silver
Springs, MD.
- UM Weather.
Good, annotated collection of weather sites from the University of
Michigan.
- World
enhanced satellite image. Excellent image of the entire world at
once. From Intellicast.
