Class Starts at 10:00 on Tuesday
As most of you have probably heard by now, one of our
geography faculty members, Sean Webster, died yesterday (a heart
attack). I need to meet with one of his classes tomorrow
(Tuesday,
Nov. 8) at 9:30 to share the sad news with them. Therefore, I
need to
delay the start of our Urban & Regional Planning class until 10:00
a.m. We'll meet for 45 minutes beginning at that time. I
apologize
for the late notice, but I know that you'll understand the situation.
11/3/05
No Class on Nov. 10 As announced in the
syllabus, there will be no class on Thursday, November 10. I will
be attending the SWAAG meeting in Fayetteville.
11/1/05
Second Planning Meeting Report There
were different due dates listed in the syllabus and in the online
instructions for the second planning meeting report. Therefore, I
am clarifying it to be the latter date, December 7, but I strongly
recommend that you complete it sooner so that you can focus on the
class project and preparations for the final exam. The dates have
now been corrected onliine and in the syllabus.
11/1/05
Class Project Online The instructions
for the class project are now online (see Class Project under
Assignments on the class webpage). These instructions will be
distributed as paper copies in class today and discussed. Please
note the revised due dates for the items in the class project; these
dates have also now been revised in the online syllabus.
10/27/05
URL for Class/Group Project Reading The
correct URL for the online version of the Oklahoma Statutes that we
accessed today in class is:
Yes, I know it looks misspelled, but that's what it is. Please read sections 36-47 of Title 11--I
know I said 39-47 in
class, but I looked more closely and 36 is about streets, 37 is about
waterworks, and 38 is about urban renewal; so we really need to include
these sections, too. Don't get blown away by Sections 36, 37, and 38;
scan them carefully for items directly related to planning. At
the main Oklahoma Statutes webpage there is a link to Title 11.
That link is to a Rich Text Format file called os11.rtf that you will
need to open with word processing software. For convenience, I
will also put separate Word documents that each contains only one
complete section 11-36 through 11-47 on the i: drive. If you want
to access these files, go to the "transfer on 'student' (I:)" drive on
the NSU network and then access the "ziehr" folder. In the ziehr
folder there is a folder labelled "URPlanning" and in that folder is
one labelled "OK-Statutes.". You'll notice the
12 files enttiled OKStatutes-Title11-36.doc, OKStatutes-Title11-37.doc,
etc. there on the i: drive.
10/24/05
For Tuesday, Oct. 25 Unfortunately, I
have not finished grading the mid-term exam for the Urban and Regional
Planning class. I had hoped to return it to you tomorrow, but
that will not be possible.
As I announced before fall break, I had also hoped to explain the group
project tomorrow, but that has taken me longer than I expected to
finalize, too. So, I hope to do that on Thursday.
Therefore, we will continue our discussion of the topics in the reading
assignments. Subdivision regulations will be the topic tomorrow.
