WORLD LOCATIONS LIST #2

GEOG 2243

Chuck Ziehr, Northeastern State University

ASIA AND EUROPE

The objective of the second world locations quiz is to develop a mental framework of two major areas of the world: Asia and Europe.  This locational framework should include major rivers, land masses, mountain ranges, water bodies, countries, and cities.  The list may appear long, but even so it contains only a very limited number of essential locations and current event places.  The process of learning the locations on this list will likely also cause you to inadvertently learn the locations of a number of other places not on the list.

On a world map and appropriate regional maps be able to locate the following places. Be able to locate the listed cities along an appropriate river or water body or within about 75 miles of its actual location if not on a river or water body.

Study suggestion:  Find the required locations in your atlas, mark and label those locations on blank outline maps of the world and on regional maps.  Trace in rivers, trace country boundaries, color in country areas.  Blank outline maps can be found at the "Outline Maps Online" section of the class webpage <http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/~ziehr/resource/outlinemaps.html>, in the Outline Map Set available on reserve in the library, and the Mapping Workbook that came with your textbook..  There is a sample, practice map quiz available on the class webpage <http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/~ziehr/courses/geog2243/wor1_prc.html>.   Practice describing how to find a given location to someone.  If you can describe where it is well enough for them to find it on a map, then you know where it is!
